PEGASUS POST Latest Christchurch news at www.star.kiwi Tuesday October 30 2018 3 News Bid to bring psychologist to Dallington • By Georgia O’Connor-Harding AUSTRALIAN disaster recovery expert and psychologist Dr Rob Gordon could be brought in to investigate ongoing social isolation issues in Dallington following the February 22, 2011, earthquake. The Coastal- Burwood Community Board will meet next week to plan how to make bringing Rob Gordon a disaster psychologist into Dallington will come into fruition. A seminar will be held to consider bringing Dr Gordon to the city and the cost to do that. The meeting will also consider the current issues facing Dallington and the wider suburbs on the residential red zone fringe. It comes after the Dallington Community Trust has asked for funding from the board for a disaster psychologist. The trust wants the disaster psychologist to investigate the extent of the issue and turn it into a wellness programme. Local News Now In Brief Fire rages, homes at risk BACKYARD FIRES The Anzac Fire Station is being called to about five backyard fires a day. Senior station officer Shane O’Brien said the calls are mainly a result of people having rubbish fires to burn off garbage and garden waste. “We haven’t had any get out of control. If it did get out of control the person would be liable for damages,” he said. Mr O’Brien said it is important residents check under Environment Canterbury’s regulations they are allowed to light fires and a water supply is available nearby. NEIGHBOURS IN DISPUTE Police were called to a disturbance between neighbours on Aldershot St in Aranui on October 20 at 1pm. It was attended by the public safety team. The Aranui Neighbourhood Policing Team is currently working on mediating between the two parties. Sergeant Stephen Sibley said the fight was likely to be a result of long-standing disagreements and taunting between the parties. He said lot of allegations were made by both parties but there were no independent witnesses and insufficient evidence to lay charges.
