Each year, one recipient is selected<br />

from 10 finalists and recognized for their<br />

impact on students’ lives. The winner will<br />

be flown to New York to attend<br />

the Annual Grammy Awards<br />

and a range of Grammy week<br />

events. Nine additional finalists<br />

will receive a $1,000 honorarium,<br />

and the schools of all<br />

10 finalists will receive matching<br />

grants. Fifteen semifinalists<br />

will receive a $500 honorarium<br />

with matching school grants.<br />

New head of school for MICDS<br />

After an eight-month search, the MICDS<br />

Board of Trustees has appointed Jay Rainey<br />

as MICDS’ next head of school.<br />

Rainey comes to MICDS from Randolph<br />

School, a K-12 independent school,<br />

where he has served as head of school<br />

since 2014. Prior to Randolph School,<br />

Rainey spent 12 years at<br />

Norfolk Academy, where he<br />

served as a math and English<br />

teacher, coach and college<br />

counselor before being promoted<br />

to director of studies<br />

and then assistant head of academic<br />

affairs.<br />

Rainey has eight years of<br />

entrepreneurial and business<br />

experience. He earned a master’s<br />

degree from the College<br />

of William & Mary and an undergraduate<br />

degree from Princeton University.<br />

Current MICDS Head of School Lisa<br />

Lyle announced in January that she will<br />

leave her position at the end of the 20<strong>18</strong>-<br />

19 school year when her contract expires.<br />

Rainey begins his position July 1, 2019.<br />
