students. As a group we journeyed without
the expectation that any of us would arrive
at a codified black aesthetic. Instead, our
context-heavy investigations ended up
providing a deep dive into user experience.
Most students came into this studio with the
expectation that the Black Cultural Center
should be more than just another campus
building in whatever ways that meant to
them. By studio’s end, projects translated
that desire by compelling a dialogue between
normative campus design strategies and the
ever self-aware black student experience.
