The Memory Care Program at Summerhill Senior Community is<br />
structured to fulfill all aspects of the social well-being of each resident’s<br />
needs. The program is structured for resident centered care on all<br />
levels from dining, activities, and ADL care. Excitingly, Summerhill<br />
Senior Community qualified to be a part of the “Music Integration<br />
Program for Seniors” through the Georgia Health Care Association.<br />
This Music Integration Program will incorporate music therapy into<br />
our residents’ daily care and activities to help with the enjoyment<br />
of special memories made around music from the residents’ past.<br />
Studies have proven that music helps to curb some behaviors related<br />
to Dementia or Alzheimer’s, and we have found that the music calms<br />
the resident while providing care. One example of how we incorporate<br />
music into the daily care of our residents is by installing Wi-Fi enabled<br />
speakers into the shower room to provide appropriate music tailored<br />
to the residents’ needs while undressing, showering, and redressing<br />
the resident to relax and clam them. Also incorporated in the program<br />
will be daily music activities and weekly volunteers to engage the<br />
residents and help with their social well-being.<br />
In addition, Summerhill has incorporated a volunteer program geared<br />
towards the needs of resident groups and structured to engage and<br />
socialize each resident. Volunteers love watching our residents thrive<br />
through socialization, music, and guided activities that nurture<br />
happy memories from his or her past. Volunteers from the age of 15<br />

check before approval. Anyone interested in volunteering to help with<br />
our Memory Care Program may see the Memory Care Coordinator,<br />
Deidra Hambrick, for an application and more information. Each<br />
day consists of structured activities ranging from art painting classes,<br />
puzzles, singing, birthday parties, one-on-one reading, and special<br />
events. Each volunteer will be assisted by a Summerhill staff member<br />
at all times. The goal of Summerhill’s premier Memory Care Program<br />
is to provide the best possible care while nurturing each resident’s<br />
social well-being in a safe and friendly environment.<br />
