Saskatoon Correctional
A male inmate on remand at
Saskatoon Correctional Centre
died Wednesday afternoon,
November 7th. He was found
unresponsive in his bunk and
was pronounced dead at approximately
1:30 p.m. His next of kin
have been notified. The police are
investigating this matter and the
ministry will conduct an internal
investigation. The death is also
being reviewed by the Saskatchewan
Coroners Service.
Missing male
At 8:30 AM on Wednesday,
November 7th, 2018 the Yorkton
Rural RCMP received a report of
a 31 year old missing male named
Dustin Eli Medvid. Medvid was
last seen by family on September
11th, 2018 at a residence in Yorkton.
Dustin was again spotted on
October 3rd, 2018 near a business
on the 3500 block of 8th Street
East in Saskatoon, SK. Dustin
is described as being caucasian,
5’10” tall, weighing 200 lbs with
black hair and brown eyes. He is
described as having a full beard
and has a mole on the bridge
of his nose near his eyebrow.
whereabouts of Dustin Medvid
is asked to contact their nearest
Single Vehicle Fatality
RCMP REPORT
On Nov 4 at 11:00 am, members
of the Broadview RCMP, Whitewood
Fire Department, and EMS
from Whitewood and Grenfell
were called to a single vehicle
rollover on the Ochapowace First
Nation near the Ochapowace
Multiplex. A van was driving
eastbound on the grid road with
three adult female occupants.
The initial scene examination
has lead investigators to believe
that the van entered the gravel
shoulder, then over corrected and
lost control rolling three times
in the South ditch. One of the
Occupants was ejected from the
van and was declared deceased at
the scene. The second occupant
suffered a non life-threatening
injury and the third had minor
injuries.
A forensic reconstructionist
attended to the scene and the
investigation into the all of the
circumstances of the collision is
still underway.
Member charged with Breach
of Trust
On October 13th, two Dillon
RCMP members came across
information indicating that an
on-duty, RCMP officer had improperly
accessed sensitive, private
images from a surveillance
video recording taken in the cell
block area of the Buffalo Narrows
detachment. They immediately
reported their findings to their
supervisor. A criminal investigation
was conducted by Prince
Albert RCMP’s General Investigation
Section (GIS). That investigation
further determined that
at least one still image had been
copied and printed from the video.
As a result, on November 6th,
Constable Wade Chitrena with
the Dillon RCMP was charged
Last Mountain Times • Monday, November 12, 2018 • lmtimes.ca
with one count of Breach of
Trust – sec. 122 Criminal Code.
Chitrena’s next court date is
scheduled for January 16th, 2019
in Dillon. Cst. Chitrena has nine
years of service with the RCMP.
He has been suspended with
pay at this time. Additionally, an
RCMP Code of Conduct investigation
has been ordered. The adult
female who was the subject of
the images has been advised. As
this case is now before the courts,
the RCMP will not be providing
further details at this time.
Abduction using firearm
On Nov. 7 at 4:20 am, the
Warman RCMP received a complaint
from a person that claimed
they had been threatened at
gunpoint while at a gas station in
Saskatoon. It is alleged that an
adult male demanded the victim
drive him outside the city while
threatening him with a sawed
off shotgun. At first the suspect
made the vehicle owner drive,
but then decided he would drive
himself.
While the suspect was driving,
he dropped the weapon onto
the vehicle floor. As he tried to
regain control of the shotgun it
discharged, striking him in the
leg and causing significant injury.
The suspect stopped the vehicle
and the owner was able to pull
him out of the vehicle, regain
control and drive away from the
scene. The abduction victim
called 911 as he was driving away.
At the same time the suspect
called 911 for assistance with his
injury. 31 year old Marty Chamakese
was arrested and charged
with eight firearms related
offences.
SPORTS
Can LeBron repeat his magic in Los Angeles?
He sparked a championship parade in Miami. He was
responsible for the championship parade in Cleveland.
So can LeBron James do it again in Los Angeles?
The spotlight-hogging National Basketball Association
star learned the ropes in the NBA with the Cleveland
Cavaliers, the closest thing he had to a hometown
team, having grown up in Akron, Ohio. But after seven
seasons without a title with the Cavaliers, and desperately
eager for a championship, he famously announced
on a TV special set up specifically for his announcement
that he was “taking my talents to South Beach,” joining
Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh on a Miami Heat team in
2010 hat proceeded to win two NBA titles in four years.
Free agency beckoned again, and James, the undisputed
king of the NBA court, returned to Cleveland in
2014 and Cavaliers’ fans — who snapped up brand new
‘James 23’ jerseys to replace the ones they burned four
years earlier — were quick to forgive and forget. And
with good reason. James led the Cavs to three NBA
Finals in a row, losing twice to the juggernaut Golden
State Warriors, but winning the title in 2016.
Now, at age 33 and still at the top of his game, James
has moved again, taking up residence in Los Angeles
where he is the star of a mediocre Lakers team that
probably won’t win anything other than television ratings
wars.
But he’s in Hollywood, where a star of his magnitude
probably belongs. His game seems to be as solid as ever,
but he won’t be part of a championship team this year.
The Lakers won only four of their first nine games,
despite James putting up averages of 28 points and nine
rebounds a game. But he’s the game’s brightest star in
the brightest city in the league, and that’s good news for
the NBA.
James turns 34 Dec. 30, so his best years are behind
him. Still, he can dominate for another three or four
years, so the Lakers’ braintrust has a couple of years to
produce a supporting cast strong enough to challenge
for another title.
The Hall of Fame awaits, whether or not James — who
has secured a spot on the Mount Rushmore of NBA
history — wins an NBA crown in Los Angeles, but what
a legacy it would be for him to have brought NBA titles
to three different cities by the time he finally calls it a
career.
Comedy writer Jim Barach: “A former Adidas
executive was convicted in the college basketball corruption
case. It looks like he will be wearing gear with a
whole new set of stripes.”
RJ Currie of sportsdeke.com: “Sportsnet’s hockey
panel asked what kind of team the Lightning will be
down the road if they don’t sign Brayden Point to a new
deal. Let me guess. Pointless?”
Dwight Perry of the Seattle Times: “The Florida
Marlins announced the signing of touted Cuban outfielder
Victor Victor Mesa. Team officials can’t decide
whether to start him out playing in Walla Walla or Pago
Pago.”
Scott Ostler of the San Francisco Chronicle, on
Twitter: “Big gamblers/losers usually get a comp room
in Vegas. Raiders will get a comp stadium.”
NBC comedian Jimmy Fallon: “Last night marks
the first World Series won by the Red Sox since 2013.
Today, five-year-olds in Boston were like, ‘Finally, the
curse is broken.’”
FROM THE
SIDELINES
BRUCE PENTON
ABC comedian Jimmy Kimmel,
wondering who President
Trump was rooting for in the World
Series: “Maybe Boston because he
loves Tom Brady or maybe the Dodgers
because that’s how he got out of
Vietnam.”
Norman Chad of the Washington
Post, on baseball’s pace: “Basketball
plays well with any music as a backdrop — rock and
roll, jazz, country, hip-hop, et al; baseball plays well to a
funeral dirge.”
Humorist Brad Dickson on Twitter: “Normally
Ohio State fans only boo the assistant coaches’ parole
officers.”
