The event was co-hosted by the Lumber Yard and the Malibu Foundation. Malibu native Ashley Shubert, of Playlist Yoga, led the yoga session and gently urged those participating to unwind, breathe deeply and refocus. “Expect the best version of you right now,” Shubert said. “We have resources, we have opportunities and they are bigger than yourselves so soothe yourselves.” Attendees collectively breathed in, cherishing the misty ocean breeze. Shubert, a Malibu High alumna who grew up in Paradise Cove, realizes how important it is to support Malibu shops and to support Malibuites as they coalesce and rally to rebuild Malibu and slowly return to normal life. “It’s so special for me to give back to my community in its time of need,” Shubert said. “I’m grateful to be able to offer yoga and to help elevate the spirits of my people.” A portion of the sales by Malibu Lumber Yard stores benefited the Relief Fund. Two new stores have just launched at the venue. Bleusalt, a boutique founded in Malibu, features athleisure wardrobe selections for men and women with fabrics made from beech tree fibers. Midheaven, a selection of fine denim-wear for ladies, displayed a selection of chic apparel. “It’s really nice to open my store that means so much to me on a day when some of the sales proceeds will benefit the victims of the fire,” said owner Kathryn Brolin. “I’m grateful to be a part of the effort to bring new energy to Malibu.” Isabella Sodeqvist, 11, helped her family sell Malibu Strong caps and spoke with Malibu Surfside News. “I made a video about being evacuated from the fire,” she said. “My message is that the material stuff really doesn’t matter because when you have family, that’s all that really matters.” Attendees enjoyed avocado toast from Avoca Toast, libations provided by Casamigos Tequila, hor d’oeuvres from Café Habana, and unicorn doughnuts from California donuts. Some chose to have a free manicure by Nail & Bone, and others enjoyed a complimentary massage, while yet others simply sat and chatted, enjoying the conviviality.
