One of my favorite
parts about being a
journalist is that no
day on the job is the same.
Each day brings new
stories, both good and bad,
and each day I get to meet
new people.
Sometimes, stories really
impact me and I leave
my interviews thinking
about them days after.
Two stories in this
week’s Lake Forest Leader
have that effect on me.
This week I had the
opportunity to go hang
nfyn
From Page 11
out with some incredible
therapy dogs who visit
local schools to bring a
little love and attention to
students.
The second I heard
about this story, I jumped
on the chance to cover this
feel-good story, and having
the opportunity to go hang
out with some cute pups.
I am a dog person, so
anything that involves dogs
– you can count me in.
While I have seen the
way dogs impact people
and help them “heal,” it
was incredible to see it in
this way.
I have been in hospitals
before were therapy dogs
are onsite to offer some
love for patients and their
families going through
rough times.
When I was in college,
during finals, the school
would bring in therapy
dogs to help students relax
and take a break from
studying and get their dog
accepted accounting principles,”
he said.
Cavaliere added the district
also received the highest
possible score on its financial
statements from the
State Board of Education.
“It is a standard measuring
metric that a lot of
school districts tend to look
at regarding their financial
profile score,” he said. “It’s
a 4.0, which is a recognition
status. So you received
the highest rating on all of
those particular metrics.
Ultimately the district’s financial
statements continue
to be healthy.”
The district’s director of
finance and operations Jason
Edelheit also thanked
payroll manager Jeanne
Conte and bookkeeper Johanna
Urban for their work
during the audit process.
“I wanted to share a
thank you with a couple of
members from the business
office,” he said. “A lot of
work goes into pulling the
documents together. I want
to recognize them for all
their effort in bringing together
all the materials, reports
and information that
the audit team compiles
into our CAFR (Comprehensive
Annual Financial
Report).”
fix.
And while I knew covering
these therapy dogs
would be the same type of
thing, I walked away feeling
touched, not just from
the dogs, but the students
and dog owners too.
When I walked into the
classroom at Safe Haven
School in Lake Bluff I saw
about six dogs being pet
by students at the school.
And while that was nice
to see, and to witness the
impact the dogs had on the
students, it was equally
as touching to see the dog
owners interact with the
students.
Each owner sat with the
students and engaged in
conversations about anything
the students wanted
to talk about, mostly it was
about dogs though and both
the owners and the students
were happy about that.
What I loved about
attending this was watching
students get undivided
go figure
attention and love.
But that wasn’t the only
story that touched me this
week.
If you check out this
week’s Life and Arts cover
story you will see coverage
of the second annual
Dance Marathon planned
by LFHS students.
This year, students
raised money for a suicide
prevention program and really
showed how students
can come together and
help others.
Students who attended
the event were passionate
about helping this cause
and giving support to those
who need it.
No matter who you are,
we all need a little love,
attention and support sometimes.
And, don’t be afraid
to ask for it, give it and take
time out of your busy life to
take care of yourself.
A little TLC is good for
our mind, body and soul.
