with Taylor Cekay
Taylor Cekay is a freshman
on the Scouts gymnastics
team
How did you
get started with
gymnastics?
I started when I was 2
years old. I did baby gymnastics
with my mom and
then I kept going.
What is the
hardest part about
gymnastics?
The hardest part is going
every single day and being
consistent and not being
scared of anything.
Do you have any
rituals or superstitions
before a meet?
Before a meet, we just
started this with Lake Forest
High School gymnastics
team, we always bump
the floor for good luck.
Do you have a
favorite event in
gymnastics?
I really like beam. I am
very tall for a gymnast, so
I have always struggled
with bars and vault. Its
just not for tall people. On
beam I can show really
pretty lines.
What has been the
biggest difference
between club and
team gymnastics?
This is my first year on
team gymnastics. I have
done club all my life. Doing
club, I do 30 hours of
training a week. In club
you get to relax more and
there is a lot less stress.
In club you get to compete
individually, but with
the Scouts I compete as a
team.
If you could play
another sport what
would you choose?
Well I did diving in the
fall, I do gymnastics now
and then I am going to
do soccer in the spring.
But if I could pick something
else I would do field
hockey. A lot of my close
friends and my brothers
girlfriend plays field hockey.
But when you are tall
and bending over to hold
the stick it is really hard.
So field hockey is not for
me.
What is your favorite
restaurant in Lake
Forest or Lake Bluff?
I really like Sushi Kushi
Toyo in Lake Forest. I
have been going there with
my brother.
If you could travel
anywhere in the world
where would you go
and why?
I would go to Bora Bora
because my brother and I
have been wanting to go
there since we were little
kids. We were born in
Florida and we love the
ocean. And the ocean in

Bora Bora is crystal clear.
What is it like being
on varsity as a
freshman?
When I started out, it
was really stressful. I have
never competed for a team,
so I was scared to let the
team down. The biggest
part about being on varsity
is going out there and being
your best self.
What is the best
coaching advice you
have ever received?
The best advice I have
gotten is to go out there
and not hold back. You are
going to have to do it anyway,
so you should put in
100 percent.
