Lake Bluff
It’s a new year and time
to recapture that sense of
self, place, possibility, and
connectivity that comes
from understanding family
history.
The History Center of
Lake Forest-Lake Bluff is
offering a new Genealogy
Program Series that will
provide the guidance and
information needed to help
create a more complete,
meaningful and accessible
history of your family.
Programs will occur
year round — kicking off
at 7 p.m. on Wednesday,
Jan. 23 with the return of
award-winning author,
Gail Lukasik.
Lukasik will share her
own genealogy journey
of self-discovery as seen
on PBS Genealogy Roadshow
and the Megyn Kelly
Today Show. Lukasik’s
latest book, “White Like
Her: My Family’s Story
of Race and Racial Passing”
was named by the
Washington Post as one of
the most inspiring stories
of 2017. FGW Productions
in association with International
Creative Management
has optioned the film
and TV rights for White
Like Her. As the first in the
series, this one is sure to
inspire.
“Genealogy and history
go hand in hand,” said Katie
Hale, program chair for
the History Center. “We
are thrilled to be offering
a year of meaningful genealogy
programming to our
communities. There are
so many people interested
in solving the puzzles of
their family histories and
the History Center wants
to provide the inspiration
and tools necessary to help
them start their investigations
or, keep digging.”
In April, a crash course
on Understanding DNA
in Family Histories will
be offered by Dr. Daniel
Hubbard a full-time professional
researcher and
past president of the Lake
County Genealogical
Society. On May 2, Kenyatta
Berry, a co-host of
the PBS series Genealogy
Roadshow will share tools
of the trade while discussing
her new book, “The
Family Tree Toolkit: A
Comprehensive Guide to
Uncovering Your Ancestry
and Researching Genealogy.”
“We’re working on lining
up more programs for
summer and fall including
a workshop on how to go
about writing your family
history, so everyone please
go to our website at www.
lflbhistory.org to sign up
and stay tuned,” Hale said.
All programs will be
held in the Hunter Family
Education Hall at 509 East
Deerpath Road in Lake
Forest.
