Global competency skills are necessary so that young people can invent a future that appropriately addresses global challenges.” The Center for Global Studies at Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart equips students to navigate through and flourish in a rapidly changing global landscape by equipping each student with global competencies. “The Center for Global Studies at Woodlands has opened my eyes to the interconnectedness of our world today,” Mikayla Swanson ’18 said. “Going on international exchange is an experience beyond words that has allowed me to learn, embrace, and share the different cultures of the world with my friends and family. It has also furthered my understanding of the challenges facing the world today and sparked a desire in me to take action and contribute to the solutions.” Mikayla’s most recent trip abroad took her to Japan on an international exploration as a part of the school’s Global Odyssey program. Over the school’s inaugural Global Odyssey—a one-of-a-kind global education program that is part of the Center’s offerings—54 students traveled to 7 countries on four continents during the last week of May. Mikayla continues to develop her ability to contribute to solutions to solve global challenges at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where she is considering a major in International Relations.
