8 News • By Jess Gibson Tuesday January 29 2019 Board member launching business with global goal A JEWELLERY business set up by a community board member to tackle global issues is finally set to launch. Bead and Proceed, which aims to spark up conversations about the United Nations’ 17 sustainability goals, is set to launch on February 24. Its chief executive Bridget Williams – who is also a Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood Community Board member – plans to host a launch party with business partners, Luke Gillespie and Anita Chang, at Avebury House from 12.30-3pm on the day of the launch. New Zealand agreed to adopt the sustainability goals in 2015. They aim to end poverty, protect the environment and minimise inequality, among other aspirations, by 2030. “These goals are for everyone, no one can be left behind,” said Miss Williams. The jewellery kits aim to get people together to create their own necklaces, with five beads that can be painted different colours to represent the goals they want achieved.
