MEET THE CAST
Rebecca Carroll
We Will Rock You is a rock musical based
on the songs of British rock band Queen.
The musical tells the story of a group of
Bohemians who struggle to restore the free
exchange of thought, fashion, and live
music in a distant future where everyone
dresses, thinks and acts the same. Musical
instruments and composers are forbidden,
and rock music is all but unknown.
I’m Rebecca Carroll and I am playing the part of
Galileo. He is a boy who is cast out by society
because he hears voices, sounds and words in his
head. He is called mad by society and the dreamer
by the Bohemians. My favourite song that I have to
sing is called Who Wants to Live Forever. This is a
duet between Galileo and Scaramouche, who is
played by Millie Loosley. Galileo met Scaramouche
in a hospital after both were taken away for being a
bad influence to society and the Ga Ga kids. The
most difficult part about taking part in the
production is learning all the lines. I love doing We
Will Rock You because it involves pushing myself
and singing and acting which I love!

At King’s we place our ASPIRE values at the heart of everything we do. This
Learning Cycle we focus on our value of SELF AWARENESS.
We will discuss self awareness every day and we endeavour to make this
relevant to our students by relating the values to issues that are affecting our
young people.
Every year group has a lesson a week in Character – here we look at Personal,
Social, Moral and Economic areas. For example, the topics covered this
Learning Cycle include;
Year 7 - Professional in school and beyond (flight paths, skills for learning
and careers).
Year 8 – Being professional with money and financially independent (the
economy, jobs and social mobility, risks with money).
Year 9 – Being professional in modern society (the law and community,
gangs and offensive weapons, conflict resolution).
How can people support our
Character focus?
Discuss the topics around the dinner table. What do you all
know? Don't hesitate to ask in school if you want to know
more!
Encourage each other to show the values – for students that
could mean completing your Character Passport (Y7/8) or
Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
If any parents have a field of expertise, through your job or
studies, and you would like to support Character at King’s,
please contact n.burrows@kingswarrington.com
Year 10 – Being professional at work and the ‘World of Work’ (rights and
responsibilities for employers and employees, jobs and apprenticeships, debt
management).
Year 11 – Revision and GCSE catch-up.
Topics we will also discuss in assemblies include;
1.) British Values and individual liberty; Parliament feedback.
2.) Professional with my health; National Obesity Week and staying active.
3.) Holocaust Memorial Day.
4.) National LGBT+ month; Professional with differences.
5.) Professional about my future; King’s Sixth Form.
“We must remember that intelligence is not enough. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of
true education”.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

This week we spoke to Ms Kelly, Graduate Teaching Scholar at King’s…
Did you have a flight path?
I always had a flight path, from 12 Years old when I became a member
of the Gwynedd County Army Cadet Force I aspired to become
a soldier, however it wasn’t clear to me until 16 years old what role
I wanted to play, and what trade I would become. My decision to
train as a Telecommunications Engineer within the Royal Corps of
Signals came from an intelligence test I completed at selection. My
flight path has changed extendedly over the years from being a Soldier
to working in Management to becoming a Teaching Scholar.
The changes in my flight path have been influenced by professionals
I have met throughout my journey and I have never looked
back on the decisions I have made.
What inspires you?
I am heavily inspired by professionals around me, praise and
encouragement. Without the support I have had from my superiors,
colleagues and friends over the years, I would not be in the position
I am now. I respond considerably well to constructive feedback, both
positive and negative, there is always a place in my life for personal
development.
What is your greatest achievement?
Honestly, I can’t decide. From passing out of basic training in the
Army to Graduating at University, every single day to me was a
challenge and great achievement. I appreciate all of the
opportunities that have arisen throughout my adult life, I reflect on
them regularly which always encourages my personal development.
Are you involved in any extra-curricular
activities?
Absolutely, It is important for personal wellbeing to separate your
life from being professional to participating in activities outside of
work time. I have recently regained a passion for fitness, running
and attending fitness classes on week nights and walking and
climbing during my free time over the weekends, I also enjoy
travelling with my young family, and spending time with my closest
friends.
What drew you to King’s?
The opportunities that are open to me as a professional at King’s
are second to none, here at King’s Warrington and across the trust.
I have been drawn to King’s by not only the career opportunities,
but also the code of conduct in which the school follows. I have a full
understanding of the ASPIRE Code and I believe that the code
structure of day to day routine in school is beneficial to the children
and young adults to whom we work for.
What is your favourite part of the King’s day?
I don’t have a specific favourite part of the King’s day. From the
start to the end I thrive off knowing that I have made a difference to
a pupil’s day. Whether it be Pastoral or Educational – If I know that
I have made a difference I am happy, and in my role as Graduate
Teaching Scholar, working closely with small group interventions
this is frequent.
Have you learnt anything new since starting at
King’s?
I have learnt how the King’s set routines and values have a greater
impact on student learning and wellbeing. From my previous
experience as Teaching School Officer, I have worked alongside
many schools across the North West and each and every school is
individual and unique. I have also developed a wider understanding
of individual student needs and differentiation in teaching and
learning – every pupil learns differently and adapting to a pupil’s
needs is important to their education.

Revision Guest Article by Mr Barker
Week 4
Over the next six weeks, we will be featuring an infographic from the Learning Scientists. So who are they?
The Learning Scientists are cognitive psychological scientists interested in research on education. Their main
research focus is on the science of learning and how we can help pass this message onto pupils as well as
parents. Their vision is to make scientific research on learning more accessible to students, teachers, and other
educators. Following a highly successful year 11 & 13 consultation evening, we wanted to share their great work
and hopefully, you can move away from poor revision strategies (reading, highlighting and copying out) and closer
towards those that have been scientifically proven to help you learn.
At King’s, students participate in World of Work activities. These activities help students to explore what the working world
looks like and what flight path they want to take in the future. King's encourage the flight path concept at the beginning of
year 7, as this way students can have a clear goal and are ready for the future. King's believe that World of Work is
important, as finding a future career for students is key in order for success.
Ben Parton, 9 Windsor, says "World of Work is important, because we should be aware of what we can do in the future." By
being aware of all our opportunities, we can take the right chances and progress in life. This is why King's want to encourage
World of Work and help the students progress. Teachers also believe world of work is important, as they can spread their
knowledge of the working world to the students, and educate them on why having a job is so important. World of Work
prepares students for today's working world and takes away the stress in finding a job in the future as students are given the
opportunity to get a clearer idea of their future before venturing out into a competitive reality. Without World of Work,
students may struggle to see all their options and all the great opportunities that are open to them. King's offer a variety of
activities in order to provide pupils with the chance to do well. In the past, students from varied year groups have
participated in career carousels, mock interviews and listened to guest speaker talks. Students have also used UniFrog as a careers platform, which helps
them to discover the best universities for their flight paths and allows them get a taster of different career fields. Teachers aim to provide these activities, as
not only does it help students discover these opportunities, but it also gives the students necessary skills that will be needed in the workplace.
Teamwork is encouraged in these activities and thinking skills and confidence are applied to the activities. Miss Henderson tells us that, "World of Work is a
really valuable way of finding out information about careers that you may be interested in, or about new careers you may not have heard about before. Our
World of Work events here also let you develop interview experience with real employers which is an amazing opportunity that many students across the
country do not get to experience." This is true, without World of Work students will be limited to what they can do and what jobs they know, this is why
educating children on today's careers is necessary. Poppy Bellis, year 7, says, "World of Work is good as it helps build confidence but also helps us find a job
for the future." The students are grateful for World of Work and all the hard work being put in by teachers to create these opportunities for the students.
ALTCAR TRAINING CAMP
Last week, our Year 10 & 12 Cadets went away
overnight to Altcar Training Camp, near Formby,
to undertake their Initial Weapons Training on
the L98A2 Cadet General Purpose Rifle. They
spent all day Tuesday going through lessons with
Squadron Leader Hudson on how to use the rifle
and in the evening, were put through their paces
to test their knowledge of the Weapon, by means of
a Weapons Handling Test, by Flying Officer Ellis
and Flying Officer Walsh, to whom are qualified
Skill at Arms (SAA) Instructors . All of the cadets
passed with flying colours and this was testament
to their hard work and attention throughout the
day. After a good nights sleep and a solid breakfast,
all of the cadets attempted Live Fire [LF]
Lessons, using the Dismounted Close Combat
Trainer [DCCT], which is a specialised system,
used to track weapon movement and correct faults,
before firing on a live range. Each cadet was given
feedback and SAA coaching throughout the day, to
improve their handling of the weapon to ensure
consistency and accuracy when shooting in future.
We are pleased to say that every cadet passed LF
1 and several also passed LF 3, which means they
can really apply themselves on our next field day
and we can hopefully start seeing some shooting
badges appear in the contingent! Fantastic efforts
all round!
