bothered to even drop a note to a friend
on Facebook, it suggests that you no
longer consider them a close friend.
You feel calmer when
they are not around
Perhaps you have a friend whose
life is one continuous drama. If you feel
happier when they are not around, it’s
a good sign that the friendship wasn’t
very healthy for you.
You feel depressed after
seeing them
Following on from the above,
maybe you have a friend who leaves
you feeling drained of energy after
meeting up with them. Maybe it’s their
pessimistic attitude or their cynical
outlook on life but if they make you feel
depressed, try finding new friends who
make you feel happier.
You don’t share the same
interests
Often, we become friends with
people who share the same interests
as us. But over time, our interests
naturally change. This means the
friends we make in school or college
might not be the people we’d choose to
be friends with now.
Recognise if your lifestyle has
moved on, meaning that your old
friendships might not be as important
as they once were.
It may sound harsh to suggest that
you should dump those old friends who
you no longer feel close to. But our
friendships really do shape who we are
and how we live our lives. It therefore
makes sense to surround yourself with
people who make you feel happy and
bring out the best in you, rather than
feeling obliged to keep in touch with
someone you have nothing in common
with.
You might feel guilty for letting a
friend drift away but, in reality, the
other person has probably moved on
too and won’t feel too sad that the
friendship is over.
Be honest,
brutally
honest. That is
what's going
to maintain
relationships.
