18 | February 7, 2019 | The glenview lantern school glenviewlantern.com District 31 establishes bilingual parent advisory committee SUBMITTED BY DISTRICT 31 District 31 recently established a Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee (BPAC).The purpose of this state-required committee is to help facilitate communication between the bilingual parents and the district and to give opportunities to discuss or provide input on the EL/Bilingual program. The group met Jan. 23 to discuss EL/Bilingual programming, review the ACCESS assessment and suggest additional topics for upcoming parent education. Important topics relating to education, the district and the community were shared. Presentations were in Spanish, Korean and Mongolian. The committee will meet at Winkelman at least four times a year and participate in the planning, operation and evaluation of the program. The BPAC committee will also review the district’s annual TBE/TPI funding and adhere to the requirements of Section 14C- 10 of the School Code ([105 ILCS 5/ 4C-10]). The district would like to thank the EL/Bilingual team for their time planning and supporting bilingual parents. The final session was presented by GBN STEM teachers and students — including several former Maple young women — to learn about high school classes in STEM and to try out designing 3D-printed items. “Overall, our Maple students had an excellent STEM-filled day, and were excited to learn about many future possibilities!” Robin Dombeck said.
