That’s according to Gina Speckman, executive director of Chicago’s North Shore Convention and Visitors Bureau. The bureau is hosting the 11th annual North Shore Restaurant Month from Feb. 1-28 with 91 local eateries participating. “It started out when Chicago started its Restaurant Week,” Speckman said. “Restaurants have a hard time in the winter because people like to be home. We thought, ‘What can we do to help our restaurants get business in the colder months?’ “If we are going through all this work to produce this program, why would we just do it for a week? If someone is on vacation, they’ll miss it. All of February needs help, so we decided to just do it for a month.” Throughout the 11 years of North Shore Restaurant Month, more and more restaurants have joined the program. The only restriction is that they must be a member of the bureau. “Our restaurants really like it and residents really get excited and ask us what restaurants are included months before February,” Speckman said. Participating restaurants specifically in Glenview include: Bourbon Kitchen & Tap, Burger Fi, Cafe El Tapatio, Corner Bakery, The Curragh, D'Agostino's, Glenview Grind, Grandpa's Place, Johnny's Kitchen & Tap, Middy Mags Pizzeria, Mozu Sushi & Izakaya, North Branch, Plateia Mediterranean Kitchen & Bar, The Rock House, Sweet Ali's, Your Pie Pizza and Zoup!. “We try to make sure the offers that we have are good,” Speckman said. “Meaning, we set perimeters on what the offers should be, like a percent off or a free dessert or appetizer with an entree purchase.” Residents and visitors can print a single certificate that can be used at all participating locations or pull it up on your phone to receive a deal this month. To help spread the word about North Shore Restaurant Month, Speckman said bureau staff members will be visiting different North Shore coffee shops throughout the month treating customers to complimentary coffee. Upcoming free coffee events will be held Feb. 7 at Glencoe’s Hometown Coffee and Juice, Feb. 14 at Northbrook’s Leonides and Feb. 21 at Glenview’s Glenview Grind. Each event will hosted from 8 a.m.-9 a.m. at each location. New this year, North Shore Restaurant Month is partnering with the newly launched North Shore Theater Month running in February, as well. Speckman said it’s the inaugural year for Theater Month, and hopes those participating in Restaurant Month will consider coupling their meal with a show at a North Shore theater. Discounts tickets can be found at North ShoreTheaterWeek.com.
