Her two greatest joys are being with her family and chasing squirrels. Lucy is always on the hunt for a squirrel or three on her walks. A historic polar vortex hung over Glenview during the last week of January, creating recordbreaking cold temperatures and bringing Glenview to a near standstill. At the end of a mostly mild first month of 2019, temperatures dropped below zero for several days in the final week of January, with temperatures as low as -22 degrees being reported in the Village of Glenview, according to data from Weather.com. At times, wind chills dropped the temperature below -30 degrees. The brutal cold caused several water main breaks and power outages across the village, with officials reporting downed service or power lines caused outages in about 15 areas around the village. Those outages left more than 3,000 ComEd customers without power during one of the coldest stretches in Glenview’s 120-year history. The record-breaking polar vortex plunged all of Illinois and much of the Midwest into a deep freeze, prompting Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker to issue a disaster proclamation for the state on Jan. 29. The cold weather has been linked to at least three deaths in Cook County, according to multiple reports. Cold-weather closings Due to the cold, residents were warned not to go outside for extended periods of time without wearing several layers of clothing and properly covering all skin.
