Horry-Georgetown Home Builders Association worked diligently to <strong>in</strong>crease the future workforce <strong>in</strong><br />
the build<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>dustry. One of the efforts was by promot<strong>in</strong>g non-traditional jobs for women to students<br />
at the Academy for Technology & Academics Summer CATE (Career And Technology Education)<br />
Program. Dur<strong>in</strong>g this summer program the students heard from guest speakers Wendy Markle, Commercial<br />
Roof<strong>in</strong>g Supervisor for Monarch Roof<strong>in</strong>g and Lesley Hill, Owner of Sun Coast Build<strong>in</strong>g Products<br />
& Services. Rusty Gask<strong>in</strong>s from SC Works spoke at the June 19th General Membership Meet<strong>in</strong>g<br />
about the benefits of hir<strong>in</strong>g an <strong>in</strong>dividual <strong>in</strong> the SC Works program. He serves as the communications<br />
l<strong>in</strong>k between bus<strong>in</strong>esses and the workforce development system, provides job development assistance<br />
to employers and placements for adults, dislocated workers, and youth.
