Feb 2019 issue M11 The construction sector is vital to both the UK economy and to the Government, if we are to achieve our economic and social ambitions. But, to make the most of the opportunities available, the sector needs to modernise quickly. We need to make the most of the skills and expertise that already exist in the sector throughout the UK and, in turn, create a major new export opportunity for our post- Brexit economy. The only way to do this is by undertaking in a fundamental shift towards offsite construction methods. Research suggests that just 7% of UK construction is currently undertaken in this way. By increasing this proportion to 25%, productivity in the sector could increase by 3.6% by 2020. The long-term economic benefits to the whole of the UK are even larger. With this in mind, MMC Feb issue brings together the latest news, views, case studies and comments from offsite industry leaders, providing you with all of the information necessary to help spark the next industrial revolution.
