Vietnam 1966
How did your family adjust to your time in the military?
My family missed me and feared for my life while in combat, but they
were proud of my service.
Who was your favorite commanding officer and why?
That’s easy. Captain Clyde Edwards, my battery commander in Vietnam.
He was an easy going guy from Georgia who was strict when it came to
doing your job but always had the welfare of his troops as his most
important objective.
Would you recommend military careers to young people trying to make
career choices?
I would recommend a military career to young people today. The
military gives them the confidence, skills, and discipline they need and
will make them more marketable when they return to the civilian world.
The military experience provides a wonderful opportunity to visit other
places and to meet fellow soldiers from other states and people from
different countries and cultures.
Describe your thoughts when you join in pledging allegiance to our flag.
When I see that beautiful red, white and blue flag, I still get a lump in my
throat and think of all the men and women that have served under that
flag during peace and war and what a difference they have made to our
country. Their sacrifices have resulted in the freedoms we enjoy and
should never be taken for granted. l
