PEGASUS WESTERN POST NEWS Latest Christchurch news at www.star.kiwi Tuesday February [Edition 26 datE] 2019 13 27 spoilt for choice Diverse craft beers draw customers to local bar Offering an extensive selection of craft beers, the Twisted Hop in Ferry Road draws customers from a wide swathe of the city’s eastern and southern suburbs, who meet there to enjoy the variety and quality of beers and the friendly local vibe. Head barman Dustin has his eye on the ball when it comes to ‘limited editions’, introducing a constantly changing lineup of guest brews from New Zealand and overseas. The hazy IPAs (Indian Pale Ales) are especially on trend at present, with customers enjoying the distinctive ‘hoppy’ flavours, Dustin says. Cask ales are another favourite, the caskconditioned beers being produced using the old-school English method of brewing. The food at the Twisted Hop is equal to the beers in flavour and quality, with head chef Tada smoking and marinating the meats on site, and making preserves and chutneys from scratch, while sous chef Kura is known as the ‘Pork Ribs Queen’, for her melt-in-the-mouth ribs. The food is cooked tapas style and served as shared platters, which allows more flexibility of choice for diners. Live music adds another twist to the atmosphere at the Twisted Hop, with various artists performing at least twice a week. There is also a function room available for private parties and business meetings with catering to suit. The Twisted Hop’s annual Cider Fest is set for Saturday March 2, with 15 extra taps delivering a range of ciders, while chef Tada has put together a special menu for the day with dishes to complement the ciders. Starting at 12 noon it will be a family day, plus there will be live music. Tickets can be purchased at the bar. The Twisted Hop is located at 616 Ferry Road, Woolston. There is free parking at the rear, and a courtesy coach is being introduced within the next few weeks.
