Colombo St roadworks almost done
Welcome
relief for
businesses

THE END is in sight for
businesses on Colombo St
which have been disrupted by
major roadworks over the last
year.
The work is on track to be
finished in June, a year after it
started. It involves installing a
new wastewater line along the
middle of Colombo St from
the roundabout at Dyers Pass,
Cashmere and Centaurus Rds
to Fisher Ave.

owner Jenny Hollands said the
businesses are looking forward
to the completion date.
“They’re just about finished.
It’s been okay, but they’ve been
really good to us,” she said.
“It’s been congested and
incredibly disrupted, but it was
really good of them to let us
keep a bit of parking.”

Karolin Potter said there has
been a lot of frustration from
businesses and residents.
Ms Potter said the work is
the “most intensive” in the city.
City council acting head of

Moore said the work will
provide a back-up system for
the existing wastewater main
during flood events, as well as
preparing for more properties
linking into the network.
But Mr Moore couldn’t say
whether the work is the most
intensive in the city because
each project is different. He
said work notices were hand
delivered to all businesses before
the construction began.

work, staff worked with a variety
of stakeholders, including
local businesses. As a result decisions

Work in front of Thorrington
Primary School was
also prioritised to have a pedestrian
crossing installed by
the start of the school term.
“Two lanes of traffic
in Colombo St has been
maintained throughout the
construction stage,” Mr Moore
said.
