These unique ‘”flat sharks” we learn, are normally found off the Canary Islands and have dark and light splotches across their body, making it ideal for camouflaging on the bottom of the seabed where they like to lurk. All kinds of rare and unusual species seem to be finding their ways into our coastal waters recently - due mainly to climate change we are told - but Welsh waters are not so far removed This goes hand in hand with how they obtain their food, by lying still before making rapid lunges at anything edible that passes, using ‘negative pressure’ to capture the prey by sucking it into their mouths.
