before the Council, <strong>and</strong> ordered to prison.<br />

Madame Perrin was among the incarcer<strong>at</strong>ed.<br />

Her rage knew no bounds; <strong>and</strong> wh<strong>at</strong> added to it<br />

was the circumstance <strong>of</strong> her f<strong>at</strong>her being<br />

imprisoned about the same time for "debauchery<br />

<strong>and</strong> adultery." The humili<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> the family <strong>of</strong><br />

Favre was now complete, <strong>and</strong> their indign<strong>at</strong>ion was<br />

fierce in proportion. They loudly dem<strong>and</strong>ed the<br />

abolition <strong>of</strong> the ecclesiastical laws, <strong>and</strong> denounced<br />

Calvin as bringing back, under another name, the<br />
