Visitor Economy:<br />
The Scarborough Tourism Economic Activity<br />
Monitor (STEAM) provides a measure of the<br />
value of the visitor economy.<br />
In 2017, results showed impressive growth with<br />
the latest figures for <strong>Cheshire</strong>’s visitor economy<br />
coming in at a value of £3.5 billion.<br />
Figures for this year also show that <strong>Cheshire</strong><br />
is accountable for employing more than 36,000<br />
people in the tourism industry.<br />
Thanks to 35 million visitors in 2017, the visitor<br />
economy in <strong>Cheshire</strong> West & Chester has, for<br />
the first time, exceeded £2 billion.<br />
In <strong>Cheshire</strong> East there was a 6.3% increase in<br />
visitors staying overnight and hotel occupancy<br />
had risen by 1.9%. In addition to this, the<br />
tourism growth rate was up by nearly 70%<br />
since 2010.<br />
