LYTTELTON’S Collett’s
Corner celebrated the end of
its crowdfunding campaign on
Thursday.
During the five-week campaign,
370 people invested a total
of $504,000 in the project.
Collett’s Corner is New
Zealand’s first crowdfunding
campaign for a commercial
development.
Founding partner of Ohu
Development, the group behind
Collett’s Corner, Camia Young
said the project was about creating
a building the community
could call its own.
“Wealth is power and if we can
all have a little bit rather than a
few people having the whole lot,
that makes for a healthier society,”
she said.
With a floor area of 2710 sq m,
the building will have a wellness
centre, community concierge,
hospitality, retail, co-working
space and apartments.
The opening has been
pushed back from 2020 to 2022
after the crowdfunding campaign
failed to meet its target of $2
million.

Fire rages, homes at risk
MAN BANNED FROM BAR
A Lyttelton bar has banned a
patron after he wrote derogatory
remarks on a noticeboard set up
for messages to remember victims
of the mosque shootings. His
views on Muslim culture were
wiped off the board by bar staff
but the man returned and wrote
the same message again which
resulted in him being barred.
The man then drew a swastika
on the board. A bar spokesman
said the swastika was not directed
at the Muslim community but
at bar staff for “denying him his
freedom of speech.”
SUMNER RD TO REOPEN
The road linking Sumner to
Lyttelton is set to reopen this
Friday at 6pm. Contractors have
spent the past two-and-a-half
years working to reinstate Sumner
Rd, which has been closed to
traffic since tonnes of rocks came
tumbling down onto it from the
surrounding cliffs during the
February 22, 2011, earthquake.
