Athlete of the Month
Morse keeps on winning

Gavin Morse just keeps on adding
on all the accolades.
After helping the Glenbrook South
boys soccer team win its first IHSA
regional title in seven years and
the Titans boys basketball team its
first regional crown in 10 years, the
South player added another honor:
22nd Century Media’s Athlete of
the Month. The senior won the company’s
honor for the month of February
after a successful high school
athletic career.
Morse won the monthly competition
with 652 votes, edging out Lake
Forest boys basketball player Michael
Pasquella and Loyola Academy girls
basketball player Julia Martinez.
The Titan helped Glenbrook South
win its first honor in 2019 and the
first since Emsela Orucevic won in
November.
Voting lasted from March 10-25.
The Athlete of the Month contest
for athletes selected in the month
of March gets underway on April
10 and will end on April 25. Vote at
NorthbrookTower.com.
Purdy, Northbrook swimmers shine at sectional
Staff report
Ryan Purdy shined again, this
time helping lead the way for the
Glenbrook Swim at the Central
Zone Speedo Champions Series.
The Glenbrook North senior won
three individual finals and took
part in three relay teams that finished
at the top of the podium in
Minneapolis for the four-day series
from March 14 to March 17.
Purdy finished first at the 100-meter
backstroke with a time of 57.37
seconds, the 200 individual medley
at 2:07.07 and the 200 back at
2:03.72. He also took part in the
800 free relay with North swimmer
Jake Shapiro and Sami Moussally
and Michael Hadjivanov
(7:49.66), the 400 medley relay
with Max Iida, Shapiro and Moussally
(3:52.23) and 400 free relay
with Moussally, Brendan Forrest
and Shapiro (3:32.09).
