FINANCE
Meet Your New Financial Advisor
Written by Jonathan Dalton
Reuters reports there are over 250,000 financial
advisors in the United States. However, when it
comes to timeless counsel on finances, one of the best
people we can consult is also one of history’s richest–
King Solomon. And not only did God bless him with
immense wealth, He blessed him with the wisdom
on how to steward it. Let’s browse through a brief
consultation between a Christian in need of financial
help and King Solomon’s wisdom captured in the King
James rendering of Proverbs:
Christian (C): “I don’t think I can afford to return
God’s tithe or bring an offering.”
King Solomon (KS): “Honour the Lord with thy
substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine
increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty,
and thy presses shall burst out with new wine”
(3:9-10).
(C): “Well, why can’t God just bless me to win the
lottery or get lucky gambling?”
(KS): “Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but
he that gathereth by labour shall increase” (13:11).
(C): “Fine. Well, is it a big deal that I’m running up my
credit card balance?”
(KS): “The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower
is servant to the lender” (22:7).
(C): “But I’m having trouble staying on a budget because
I just love spending!”
(KS): “He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he
that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich” (21:17).
(C): “Be rich? But isn’t it wrong to accumulate wealth?”
(KS): “A good man leaveth an inheritance to his
children’s children” (13:22) and “The crown of the
wise is their riches” (14:24a).
(C): “Then if it’s ok to accumulate wealth, I want to be
rich now!”
(KS): “A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he
that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent”
(28:20).
(C): “Fine then. What about a savings account?”
(KS): “There is treasure to be desired and oil in the
dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it
up” (21:20).
(C): “Why do I need to make a budget and track my
bank account balance?”
(KS): “Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks,
and look well to thy herds… And thou shalt have
goats’ milk enough for thy food, for the food of
thy household, and for the maintenance for thy
maidens” (27:23, 27).
Remember, there are many resources on learning about
finances, but the Bible will always be the timeless guide
to handling money. After all, God testified of Himself in
Haggai 2:8 that all the silver and gold belong to Him!
WELLNESS
5 Tips to Build Your
Immune System
Written by Megan Bass
The immune system is the first line of defense against any bacteria, fungi or toxins. Therefore keeping it
strong and healthy is essential, increasingly so to fight off cold and flu viruses. Here are five tips to help
build your immune system:
1. Simply having a good attitude can be one of the most important ways to build your immune system.
When you are happy and optimistic your immune system functions well and is at its strongest state. A
stronger immune system means a stronger defense system and a longer life.
2. We have all heard the saying, “make sure you get enough rest when you are sick.” This saying is true
and very important because lack of sleep can negatively affect your immune system, as it becomes
more difficult to fight off viruses. In the event that you do get sick, little to no rest can slow down your
recovery time.
3. Fruits have important vitamins and minerals that keep your immune system healthy. Fruits such as
oranges are high in vitamin C, while apples are rich in antioxidants. Incorporating these fruits into your
diet on a daily basis can strengthen your immune system, giving you the vitamins you need to fight off
harmful toxins that may enter your body.
4. Working out regularly is another way to build a healthy immune system. It helps promote good blood
circulation and helps the lymphatic fluid function properly, which is essential to fighting off infections.
5. Lastly, keeping your hands clean is one of the best ways to ward off illness. Washing your hands for 15 to
20 seconds with each wash using soap and warm water is the key. Furthermore, it is important to do so
throughout the day.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 KJV says, “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you,
which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?” If your body is truly a temple that you wish for the Lord to use,
it is important to start with building a healthy immune system.
Charles Jenkins, Senior Pastor of Fellowship
Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, has
announced his retirement. His last day will be
December 31, 2019. Pastor Jenkins joined the
pastoral staff of his mentor, Rev. Dr. Clay Evans,
founder of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church,
nearly 21 years ago in 1998. Then in 2000, he
officially succeeded Dr. Evans as Senior Pastor
and has since then led the congregation to much
growth in all areas.
Pastor Jenkins is also a widely-acclaimed singer,
songwriter, and producer. Pastor Jenkins says,
“It has been the joy of my life, and the honor of
a lifetime to serve at Fellowship in the greatest
city in the world, for almost half of my life,” said
Jenkins, Senior Pastor of Fellowship Missionary
Baptist Church. “I’m leaving the lead role, but I’m
never leaving Reverend Evans, my spiritual
family, or Chicago. I owe so many people so
much. I am emotionally all over the place, but I
believe it’s God’s Plan. Additionally, I am excited
about Fellowship’s future with my successor
Reverend Reginald Sharpe Jr.”
Dr. Evans says,“I love him! I love him! He is my
pastor, my son, and my friend,” said Evans. “He
has done a marvelous job, a Herculean job, an
excellent job. He has made me very proud. He
has been good to me and Fellowship. It was
the Lord’s doing, and the young man following
Reverend Jenkins will do well. I was 25 when I
started Fellowship. Reverend Jenkins was about
25. Sharpe is about 27, and that’s a good age, a
good age. God is in the plan.” While Jenkins is
unsure of his immediate future plans, he has an
enormous amount of support as many are
praying for blessings and expanded territory! “Oh,
that you would bless me and enlarge my
territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me
from harm so that I will be free from pain. And
God granted him his request.” I Chronicles 4:10
