‘15th Anniversary’ showcase 

of shimmering vistas 

‘Looking towards Bass Rock from North Berwick Beach’

moody, tempestuous West Coast seascapes 

with uplifting, streams of light through 

dramatic clouds looking towards Lismore, 

Ardnamurchan and Mull (see pic below). 

Primrose then contrasts misty, atmospheric

shimmering ripples along both the Thames 

(see pic on the right) and the timeless waterways 

of Venice – the majestic, impressive 

surrounding architecture bathed resplendent 

in vibrant late afternoon light respectively.

‘Moments in Time’ Exhibition 

Although probably best-known for his 

stunning Edinburgh cityscapes and 

parklands, this is an amazing ‘highlight’ 

collection of over 60 outstanding oil 

paintings from a variety of destinations 

(captured from 2004-2019). Primrose 

focuses on the theme of ephemeral light 

impressions glistening onto water – which 

has always been a recurring motif in his 

acclaimed paintings. 

From recent works not too far from his home 

in Marchmont – he depicts the shorelands of 

the Forth, firstly illustrating impressive 

intricate studies of the Forth Bridges, 

Newhaven, Cramond, Leith and Portobello 

Beach at sunrise and sunset. Next, he 

exquisitely features East Lothian bays – 

from glorious, bold and stormy cloud 

formations and iridescent sands to a softer 

impressionistic pastel palette at Tyninghame 

and North Berwick, including Bass Rock

Another big year at Carlton

Often sports clubs, teams and players 

are known for their success at 

national, regional and club level and 

local club Carlton is no exception. 

From the senior men’s team winning 

the Masterton Trophy, to the U13s 

winning the ECB Scottish Cup, last 

season saw plenty of achievements 

from their teams and individuals. 

1st XI skipper Ali Evans played a crucial 

role in Scotland’s historic win over England 

in June, while 13 year old Murray Johnson 

helped the Scotland U15 side reach the 

final of the Royal London Cup down in England. 

Carlton is proud of its development ethos 

which runs throughout the club. Young 

players, who learnt their cricket at Grange 

Loan, play in all 5 senior sides but the club 

also welcomes older players, indeed they 

are a vital part of the development equation. 

Nothing demonstrates this more than 

the age gap between oldest and youngest 

players in the 5th XI which regularly exceeds 

half a century! 

These success stories and accolades, however, 

would never have been possible without 

the support of the club and its army of 

volunteers - from coaches turning out each 

weekday evening throughout the summer, 

to those putting time and effort into both 

keeping the ground aesthetically pleasing 

and maintaining one of the best wickets in 

the country.

Tomato and toasted sourdough salad with infused garlic and anchovy olive oil dressing 

This will serve 4 as a side dish for any meal. 

Ingredients 

4 crushed garlic cloves 

6 anchovy fillets in oil drained and chopped 

110ml olive oil, 100g sourdough crusts on and cut into 2cm chunks 

500g ripe tomatoes – red, yellow, green if you can find them cut into 4 cm chunks or cherry tomatoes 

halved 

1 lemon zested and also squeezed 

1tbsp capers roughly chopped 

1 tsp chilli flakes, Flaked sea salt to taste 

Method 

Put the 1 st three ingredients into a pan along with ½ tsp salt. Heat the oil and cook gently withgeous 

rich aroma of the infused oil. Leave to one side.

Once ready add the bread chunks to the oil and mix together well. Take out the bread and place 

into your serving bowl. Leave the excess oil garlic and anchovy for later. 

Mix the tomatoes, lemon zest, lemon juice, capers, parsley and mint together and sprinkle with 

pepper. 

Once you are ready to serve, add the tomato mixture to the bowl of bread. Mix and toss well 

together. Drizzle over the rest of the infused oil, add the chilli flakes and you are ready to serve.

Trying new things to rejuvenate yourself 

Hello! 

bit like that. Weekly menu’s, with the same shopping lists all makes life lovely and easy as we 

don’t need to think too much about what we are doing. But how inspiring is that? I know I can be 

like that too with my family meal cooking but actually for us to experience new tastes and to expeput’s 

the pressure on. I don’t do so much of that with my children which I’m realising I need to 

focus on. 

We’ve just had a holiday weekend with the most glorious sunshine and warmth. We have over the 

weekend done things that have been fun, inspiring and really enjoyable. It’s made me realise that 

life can be less stressful if we put a bit of fun and play into our lives. Nothing we were doing was 

new.. swinging on swings, swimming in the cold sea, jumping on trampolines. Having a picnic in 

the sunshine using my Granny’s picnic basket brought a bit of nostalgia to the picnic rug conversamade 

me feel lighter and happier and rejuvenated in myself. So how about making new dishes and

tomatoes are cut in half to give gorgeous colour with tasty toasted sourdough chunks. This is a 

salad to be easily transported for your sunny day picnic or with a savoury tart, cold meats, or hummus 

and avocado dips. The list really is endless. My children loved this… as did the whole family 

which I was delighted about. This dish will definitely be on my list of salads to eat this summer.
