Malleny Mortgage Solutions -
Scottish Mortgage Awards
2019 Finalist!
As an independent mortgage broker we were
delighted to find we had been nominated in the
2019 Best Regional Broker – Edinburgh category.
We were blown away at the awards dinner to find
that we made the finalists in the category against
much larger mortgage brokers.
Even more exciting was that we were finalists in the overall “Best Broker
Scotland” category. It is a fantastic achievement for us.
So what does that mean for you? Well as your local independent mortgage broker it
means that you don’t have to go far for the best service! We pride ourselves on our
ethos and the individual, proactive personal service we provide to clients. The award
publicly recognises these qualities. Check out our Facebook page or Google reviews to
see what our clients say about us.
Whether your situation is complex or straight forward, you can be assured that we will
take the time to understand and research thoroughly the best options for you. We are
confident that if we can’t help you secure finance – nobody can!
Spring has sprung (so to speak) and traditionally the housing market starts to heat up. If
you are thinking of moving apart from standard mortgages we can advice and assist
with the following:
- Bridging loans
Don’t be put off thinking that a bridging loan is both expensive and complex. In recent
times bridging loans have become much more competitive with a wider choice of lender.
We have seen a significant increase in bridging loan applications over the last year.
The benefit of a bridging loan is that it allows you to negotiate as a cash buyer and
complete the purchase of your dream home before your own sale has completed.
- Let to Buy
This is when you decide to buy another property but wish to retain the existing residence
and rent it out. We can assist with capital-raising from this property to assist
with the deposit for the new residential purchase. It means two mortgage applications
going through but we are well used to managing this.
So, if you are thinking of moving – get in touch with us for a free initial informal chat.
THE SUMMER
EDIT...
We have had a great taste of summer lately and
its been so fabulous to see everyone wearing
their colours, print and cool accessories. So lets
get this thing going on and nail the trends ready
for the next dose of sunshine.
BISCUIT CHIC
If you don't already know, beige is so in but
everyone is calling it biscuit or nougat or baked
hues!?! Anyway, it can be a really good look if
you if you pick a structured piece, show your
shape and incorporate complementary neutrals
such as metallics or blush. We love love
our choose kindness slogan fitted tee £47, and
nougat Inwear cotton knit £89.99.
SAY IT WITH FLOWERS
Bold, bright or delicate, floral blooms are a total
riot for summer 19 so you really need to get on
board. Top tip, the smaller the bloom the more
understated the look. We love French Connections
flip floral blue print £90 and Danish
brand Numph's beautiful print dress £89.
PUNK IT UP
Add some bite to your outfits with punchy
neon, statement sunnies and punk prints.
We love our Zahara scarves £39, Italian
sunnies, £38.50 and Skandi sneakers
from £90.
Follow us on instagram #rosypenguin to keep up to date with our new collections, events and
competitions & to shop our brands online. Use our click and collect service so you don't
miss out on sizes/styles and can swing by and collect your purchases whenever suits x
Jamie Primrose
Contemporary Scottish Artist
‘15th Anniversary’ showcase
of shimmering vistas
‘Looking towards Bass Rock from North Berwick Beach’
50cm x 50cm, Oil on canvas
(see pic on the left). This is followed by
moody, tempestuous West Coast seascapes
with uplifting, streams of light through
dramatic clouds looking towards Lismore,
Ardnamurchan and Mull (see pic below).
Primrose then contrasts misty, atmospheric
vistas with softer, colourful hues and
shimmering ripples along both the Thames
(see pic on the right) and the timeless waterways
of Venice – the majestic, impressive
surrounding architecture bathed resplendent
in vibrant late afternoon light respectively.
Meanwhile the rich warmth of gleaming,
clear, continental light in summer along the
Italian and French Riviera is beautifully
To mark his special ‘15th Anniversary’ since
he began showing his new solo art
collections twice or three times a year at The
Dundas Street Gallery in the New Town –
best-selling artist Jamie Primrose celebrates
with an incredible milestone retrospective
there (exactly 15 years to the month) from
Friday 7th – Saturday 15th June.
‘Moments in Time’ Exhibition
Although probably best-known for his
stunning Edinburgh cityscapes and
parklands, this is an amazing ‘highlight’
collection of over 60 outstanding oil
paintings from a variety of destinations
(captured from 2004-2019). Primrose
focuses on the theme of ephemeral light
impressions glistening onto water – which
has always been a recurring motif in his
acclaimed paintings.
From recent works not too far from his home
in Marchmont – he depicts the shorelands of
the Forth, firstly illustrating impressive
intricate studies of the Forth Bridges,
Newhaven, Cramond, Leith and Portobello
Beach at sunrise and sunset. Next, he
exquisitely features East Lothian bays –
from glorious, bold and stormy cloud
formations and iridescent sands to a softer
impressionistic pastel palette at Tyninghame
and North Berwick, including Bass Rock
‘Luminous skies looking towards Mull’
100cm x 150cm, Oil on canvas
Feature: Local Artist
‘‘Twilight skies over the city from Waterloo Bridge’
60cm x 60cm, Oil on canvas
highlighted – from the characterful, colourful
houses in the Cinque Terre fishing villages
of Liguria to the sparkling turquoise coves
and spectacular vibrant sunsets in and
around Antibes on the Cote d’Azur.
Each magnificent oil painting mini-series
complements the next, highlighting the
collectable artist’s passion for skilfully
expressing fleeting light onto water in a
snapshot ie. that special ‘moment in time’
just before or after an impending storm or
the last vivid watery glimmer from sunset to
sundown when the light is changing rapidly.
Primrose is a master at wonderfully
capturing luminosity, colour and
atmosphere in his trademark style.
paintbrush. In 2003, Jamie returned home
to the capital to become a professional
artist and has achieved outstanding
success – showcasing over 30 highly
successful new solo collections in
Edinburgh and London since then, his
skilful work continually in demand by an
cricket
Another big year at Carlton
By Gavin Murray
Often sports clubs, teams and players
are known for their success at
national, regional and club level and
local club Carlton is no exception.
From the senior men’s team winning
the Masterton Trophy, to the U13s
winning the ECB Scottish Cup, last
season saw plenty of achievements
from their teams and individuals.
1st XI skipper Ali Evans played a crucial
role in Scotland’s historic win over England
in June, while 13 year old Murray Johnson
helped the Scotland U15 side reach the
final of the Royal London Cup down in England.
Carlton is proud of its development ethos
which runs throughout the club. Young
players, who learnt their cricket at Grange
Loan, play in all 5 senior sides but the club
also welcomes older players, indeed they
are a vital part of the development equation.
Nothing demonstrates this more than
the age gap between oldest and youngest
players in the 5th XI which regularly exceeds
half a century!
These success stories and accolades, however,
would never have been possible without
the support of the club and its army of
volunteers - from coaches turning out each
weekday evening throughout the summer,
to those putting time and effort into both
keeping the ground aesthetically pleasing
and maintaining one of the best wickets in
the country.
More help is always greatly appreciated at
Grange Loan and if you’d like to get involved
– maybe by helping to prepare cricket
teas 3 or 4 time a year, for example –
just drop the club an email to
info@carltoncc.co.uk.
The club website at www.carltoncc.co.uk
contains full details of upcoming
fixtures and the Membership page
outlines membership options for local
residents. Or just drop in and say hello –
they’ll be delighted to see you.
MENU
Trying new things to rejuvenate yourself
Hello!
bit like that. Weekly menu’s, with the same shopping lists all makes life lovely and easy as we
don’t need to think too much about what we are doing. But how inspiring is that? I know I can be
like that too with my family meal cooking but actually for us to experience new tastes and to expeput’s
the pressure on. I don’t do so much of that with my children which I’m realising I need to
focus on.
We’ve just had a holiday weekend with the most glorious sunshine and warmth. We have over the
weekend done things that have been fun, inspiring and really enjoyable. It’s made me realise that
life can be less stressful if we put a bit of fun and play into our lives. Nothing we were doing was
new.. swinging on swings, swimming in the cold sea, jumping on trampolines. Having a picnic in
the sunshine using my Granny’s picnic basket brought a bit of nostalgia to the picnic rug conversamade
me feel lighter and happier and rejuvenated in myself. So how about making new dishes and
One of the new recipes I made was a delicious garlic and basil tomato and bread salad. Simple but
just gorgeous on taste.
tomatoes are cut in half to give gorgeous colour with tasty toasted sourdough chunks. This is a
salad to be easily transported for your sunny day picnic or with a savoury tart, cold meats, or hummus
and avocado dips. The list really is endless. My children loved this… as did the whole family
which I was delighted about. This dish will definitely be on my list of salads to eat this summer.
