Bit about you 

I, along with my husband and cocker spaniel, 

Curly, moved to Edinburgh from California 

18months ago. We had been to Edinburgh on 

holiday and fallen in love with the city 

Bit about starting Smooches Pooches 

I opened Smooches Pooches in California in 

2014 - and envisioned a space where the 

“doggie door was always open”. A boutique 

that was community-centred and inspired by 

the special connection we have with our 

‘furbabies’… Today Curly and I are honoured 

to bring Smooches Pooches to Edinburgh… 

welcoming all and encouraging daily ‘furbaby’ 

cuddles and fun. 

Top selling item in shop 

Our wide array of collars and leashes in various 

textiles and colours are very popular. And 

our furry clients love our all-natural and single 

-ingredient treats from venison to kangaroo! 

What do you do in spare time 

When I am not at the shop, Curly and I are 

exploring this beautiful country on plenty of 

day-trips and mini-holidays!

I am a museum junkie! When I am not daytripping,

Gorgeous exhibition of iconic 

views by the acclaimed painter 

dawn and dusk to stunning, panoramic skies 

beyond the city’s bold silhouette from 

nearby hill-top vantage points:

The outstanding architecture of historic 

Edinburgh and the beauty of the landscape 

which surrounds it is undeniably stunning 

and unique – a magical source of inspiration 

to many artists, writers and poets, past and 

present. 

Firstly, with skillful intricate mark making in 

his black and white Indian inks, he captures 

structures steeped in historical relevance as 

he looks towards the Mound (see pic below), 

Candlemaker Row, the Vennel, the Royal 

Mile and Victoria Street. These striking 

monochrome illustrations both contrast and 

complement his colourful, characterful suite 

of oils of similar areas in the late afternoon 

and then onto twilight in a glorious series of 

wintry nocturnes (see pic to the left). 

Best-selling Scottish artist Jamie Primrose is 

equally enthralled, having been personally 

fascinated by the heritage and significance 

of ‘Auld Reekie’ since his childhood growing 

up in the capital. 

Since returning to the city 15 years ago 

(having been away since his schooldays), 

his obsession for capturing the 

ever-changing Scottish light cascading over 

the city’s architecture at different times of 

the day throughout the seasons has only 

intensified.

‘Afternoon shadows over The Ross Fountain

Bit about you… I am 26 years old, half Lebanese 

and half Scottish. I studied business management 

at Edinburgh Napier university and 

started Hummus café in September 2018. 

Bit about starting Hummus... Being brought 

up on a Lebanese diet, I always knew that we 

had wonderful recipes that people would love, 

and it was my ambition to share our food with 

everybody. Most Lebanese food is vegan and 

with the change in the planet’s climate and 

people’s thinking it felt like a no brainer to go 

for the whole vegan, non-meat menu. 

Best tip for starting your own business... 

find a unique idea that you are extremely confident 

and passionate about and do not hesitate 

to put it into action. 

Most popular dish at Hummus?

Best health tip… cut out as much meat/dairy 

as you can and replace them with a variety of
