Dear customers,<br />
35 in quick succession! Is it possible to prepare a new edition of<br />
Beethoven’s complete piano sonatas in exceptional quality in just<br />
a few years’ time? The answer is: Yes! – with an exceptional editor –<br />
Jonathan Del Mar. We are grateful that we found such a person to<br />
work with us on this special project.<br />
Jonathan Del Mar is not only known for his astounding knowledge<br />
of Beethoven’s music and his phenomenal memory, he also works<br />
with remarkable precision and speed. At times, one is reminded of<br />
Beethoven’s words: “I live only in my notes, and with one work barely<br />
finished, the other is already started; the way I write now I often<br />
find myself working on three, four things at the same time.” (1801).<br />
The edition of the piano sonatas was scheduled to be completed<br />
by 2020, the year of Beethoven’s 250 th anniversary. This was a<br />
timeline that kept all of us – the editor, proofreader, engraver,<br />
production and me – on our toes. The Beethoven anniversary was<br />
our incentive and constituted a great challenge for us as a music<br />
publisher. We made it and it is with pride and joy that we now<br />
present you with our new edition.<br />
Join us as we look forward to one of the most important music<br />
anniversaries of our time. There will be no shortage of outstanding<br />
performances of Beethoven’s works, of special events, and festive<br />
celebrations – making a choice might not be easy at times.<br />
