Us, a Pitless Peach<br />

Our conversations:<br />

teeth grinding in<br />

a blender, a callus<br />

peeled back, a blister<br />

needing cleaned.<br />

We showered<br />

together<br />

for the first time<br />

(clothed). We lived<br />

together eight years<br />

closed under business<br />

suits ties collared shirts<br />

blazers: even onions<br />

only have so many<br />

layers before nothing<br />

is left but an empty<br />

center. Filling our<br />

dinners with<br />

clinking silverware,<br />

hollow cups, jaws<br />

oscillating up and down,<br />

deconstructing meals made<br />

by neither of our hands.<br />

It is rude to chew<br />

with mouths open, rude<br />

to talk over each other:<br />

silence interrupted with<br />
