STAND-OFF: Police spent three hours negotiating with Troy
Dubovskiy before he died of a suspected suicide.
Russian sent email, had list
•From page 1
That prompted a major
operation across the city.
Dubovskiy was found in his
vehicle in Richmond several
hours later.
After a stand-off the 54-yearold
was found with critical stab
injuries in the early hours of
March 27 and later died. His
death is suspected suicide.
At the time Canterbury police
chief, Superintendent John Price,
said Dubovskiy was a “significant
threat to the community.”
Investigations showed
Dubovskiy supported the actions
of the mosque gunman, police
said. But no connection had been
established between the two.
Police chiefs did not respond
yesterday to questions from The
Star about the two officers on
Dubovskiy’s list.
The Police Association, which
is the police officers’ union, and
is involved in welfare issues, said
the matter fell into the police operations
category, and also would
not comment.
Meanwhile, a 27-year-old will
appear in the district court on
Tuesday after he was allegedly
caught with a large amount of
cash in a safe, methamphetamine
and a sawn off shotgun on the
day of the terror attacks.
The motorist was spotted by
one of the many police patrols
scouring Christchurch for
the mosque gunman driving
suspiciously in Strickland St,
Spreydon, and stopped.
Police would not say yesterday
how much money was in the safe,
but The Star understands it was
about $170,000.
He is a facing charges of
possession of methamphetamine
for supply, unlawful possession
of a firearm and unlawful
possession of ammunition.
