Heal for Africa For Girl<br />

Hygiene in Kogi<br />

Wife of Kogi State governor,<br />

Mrs. Rashida Bello has called<br />

on s<strong>take</strong>holders <strong>to</strong> join the<br />

advocacy and step up action<br />

on menstrual hygiene<br />

management in the state.<br />

Mrs Bello spoke on the<br />

sideline of the 2019 Menstral<br />

Hygiene day organised by the<br />

Heal for Africa Initiative with<br />

the theme: It’s Time for Action.<br />

The governor’s wife said this<br />

year's theme not only<br />

emphasizes the urgency of<br />

public health issues but also<br />

highlights the transformative<br />

power of quality menstrual<br />

hygiene education and<br />

strategic menstrual hygiene<br />

management, MHM<br />

interventions <strong>to</strong> the overall<br />

development of girls and<br />

women.<br />

“As the global community<br />

works <strong>to</strong>wards achieving the<br />

Sustainable Development<br />

Goals, SDGs, it is essential <strong>to</strong><br />

come <strong>to</strong>gether and support<br />

these adolescent girls by<br />

educating them on how <strong>to</strong><br />

adhere <strong>to</strong> basic hygienic<br />

methods, so as <strong>to</strong> enable them<br />

truly fulfil their potentials as<br />

key ac<strong>to</strong>rs in achieving a<br />

sustainable and equitable<br />

world.”<br />

Mrs. Bello promised that her<br />

Foundation will have a<br />

continuous collaboration with<br />

Heal for Africa Initiative, “<strong>to</strong><br />

stand in the gap <strong>to</strong> ensure that<br />

girls and women in Kogi State<br />

can manage their periods<br />

safely, privately and with<br />

dignity, in order for them <strong>to</strong><br />

fulfill their dreams and<br />

harness their full potentials.”<br />

She called on s<strong>take</strong>holders<br />

<strong>to</strong> support programs like this<br />

which aims <strong>to</strong> empower the<br />

girl-child and women. “This<br />

will improve confidence,<br />

sense of belonging and<br />

opportunity <strong>to</strong> live a<br />

meaningful and productive<br />

life.”<br />

initiative in Delta<br />

…presents cleaning items <strong>to</strong> 3 police barracks<br />

ers’ Wives Association,<br />

POWA, Delta State Command,<br />

has flagged off the<br />

Our Barracks, Our Pride initiative<br />

in three Police Divisions<br />

in Asaba, Delta State.<br />

The flag off of the initiative<br />

which was conceived by<br />

the wife of the Inspec<strong>to</strong>r-<br />

General of Police, Hajiya<br />

Adamu, was launched by<br />

the chairperson, POWA, Delta<br />

State Command, Mrs<br />

Bola Adeleke alongside other<br />

executive members on<br />

June 1, 2019.<br />

According <strong>to</strong> Adeleke, the<br />

IGP’s wife thought it necessary<br />

<strong>to</strong> come up with the<br />

Our Barracks, Our Pride initiative<br />

that would ensure officers<br />

and men <strong>to</strong>gether with<br />

their families live in clean<br />

and healthy environment <strong>to</strong><br />

do their jobs, which will also<br />

promote sound health, prevent<br />

diseases and save money<br />

on health- related issues,<br />

hence reintroducing sanitation<br />

exercise in all barracks<br />

across the country under the<br />

initiative.<br />

Meanwhile, she and other<br />

members of the association<br />

•National President, Police Officers'<br />

Wives Asoociation, POWA, Hajiya Fatima<br />

Mohammadu Adamu<br />

also embarked on a barracks<br />

inspection and sanitation<br />

exercise <strong>to</strong> flag off the initiative.<br />

The event kicked off at the<br />

‘A’ Division Barrack Asaba<br />

and was coordinated by the<br />

wife of the Divisional Police<br />

Officer, DPO, Chinenye Fasugba,<br />

where the women<br />

came out en masse <strong>to</strong> participate<br />

in the exercise.<br />

The team then proceeded<br />

<strong>to</strong> the’ B’ Division Barrack<br />

in Asaba, where they were<br />

received massively and participated<br />

in the exercise.<br />

The event witnessed a<br />

plenary session where<br />

s<strong>take</strong>holders from the<br />

ministries of health,<br />

agriculture, education,<br />

environment, women affairs<br />

as well as professional and<br />

at the 'C' Division Barrack<br />

Asaba, with high turnout<br />

of women and their families.<br />

Meanwhile, the exercise<br />

was also observed simultaneously<br />

in all Police Divisions<br />

in the state as was directed<br />

by the POWA chairperson.<br />

of cleaning items <strong>to</strong> the<br />

three divisions by the POWA<br />

menstrual hygiene management<br />

in Kogi State with emphasis on<br />

The 2019 CEO Forum,<br />

themed: Hidden Figures:<br />

The Cost of Exclusion, will<br />

highlight the cost of exclusion<br />

<strong>to</strong> our economic<br />

growth, the correlation between<br />

gender affirmative<br />

reforms and GDP, Economic<br />

Growth, Job Creation &<br />

Wealth Distribution. It will<br />

also highlight the mechanism<br />

that ensures the deepening<br />

of reforms; completion<br />

and implementation of<br />

pending initiatives; including<br />

engagement with the<br />

public and the validation of<br />

completed reforms. The program<br />

will further stimulate<br />

open and broad dialogue<br />

between CEOs, Policymakers<br />

and Practitioners on the<br />

role of the Private Sec<strong>to</strong>r in<br />

advocating and driving reforms.<br />
