One of the suspects, Shefiu Aliu, was arrested around NEPA, Ayobo-Ipaja, June 3 at about 9p.m. by a surveillance patrol team attached to Ipaja Police Station. He was arrested while attempting to snatch handsets and handbags from two females namely Grace Williams and Deborah Williams. Court slams N2.5m damages on pastor for trespass By Alemma Aliu BENIN CITY—A Benin High Court has slammed N2.5 million damages on a pastor, Clifford Osawaru, for trespassing into a parcel of land in Benin. The court, presided over by Justice Ada Ehigiamusoe, affirmed Alhaji Tanko Ileogben as the rightful owner of the land measuring 300 by 500 feet, situated at Plot 36-39 Block K, Evbuoriaria Layout, Benin City. Delivering judgment on the case, Justice Ehigiamusoe said the amount was meant for “general, special and exemplary damages over act of trespass and granted possession of the said land to the claimant.” In compliance with the judgment, the claimant who was accompanied with policemen along with the court bailiff have moved to execute a warrant of possession, writ of attachment to execute the judgment. The process of mapping the parcel of land with red tape has been concluded by court officials, while surveyors were on ground to determine its boundaries. 28-yr-old man stabbed to death in Enugu for seizing girlfriend's phone By Ikechukwu Odu NSUKKA—THE sleepy community of Unadu, Igbo- Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State, yesterday, was thrown into pandemonium following the death of a 28-yearold man identified as Nnabuike Eze. It was gathered that late Eze had a misunderstanding with his girlfriend (name withheld) which made him to seize her phone. According to a source that pleaded for anonymity, the girlfriend later came to demand for the phone from the deceased, but he did not oblige her request which made her to send her other male friends to collect the phone from him. It was learned that the two male friends she sent engaged the deceased in a fight in an attempt to collect the item from him, but their efforts were futile. The source further disclosed that the late Eze later sent the phone to her protesting girlfriend through a friend, but she was at home when the friend brought the phone. An eyewitness' account confirmed that the deceased was relaxing at a beer palour yesterday when someone stabbed him on the throat and abandoned him in a pool of his blood. It was further revealed that other fun-seekers and even the owner of the beer palour, identified as Onwa, where the late Eze was relaxing, scampered for safety. When help did not come his way, the deceased managed to stand up but only took few steps before collapsing to death due to loss of much blood. Confirming the incident, the state command Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, said some persons have been arrested in connection with the incident and are now helping the Police in their investigations. The remains of the deceased had been deposited in a morgue for autopsy. Kolawole and an alleged accomplice, 54-year-old Chief Lawrence Ojo, were paraded by the state police command. Recall that late Abiodun was shot dead by killers that invaded the Akure Diocesan office of the Anglican Communion in the state and carted away N500,000 church money meant to pay workers. He was trailed from one of the banks, where he had withdrawn the money, by the robbers. In an interview, the herbalist confessed that he was given N90,000 in the first operation after robbing a bank customer who withdrew a large sum from the bank. His words: “I bought two tyres for my car out of my share and spent the rest on merriment. This was the second trip I will go with the gang. “My job is to drive the get-away vehicle after other members have robbed the unsuspecting bank customer. We have informants inside the bank. We trail our victim from the bank until he or she gets to a safe place and we descend on them.” Asked why he abandoned the herbalist trade, Martins said: “It was no more lucrative and I decided to look for another quick avenue to make money. The incident happened in a forest between Ndele and Rumuji community in Emohua Local Government Area of the state.
