<strong>Lewes</strong> BaroqueFest. It’s been some years since<br />

the demise of the <strong>Lewes</strong> Early Music Festival, but<br />

now the idea has been revived by John Hancorn<br />

and Julia Bishop who are co-Artistic Directors of<br />

the new <strong>Lewes</strong> BaroqueFest. With six concerts<br />

and two workshops there’s plenty on offer for both<br />

audiences and amateur singers and players. Don’t<br />

miss virtuoso recorder player Piers Adams and<br />

pianist Howard Beach on Thursday 18th. Sparks<br />

will fly! Full details of individual events are on the<br />

Glyndebourne Festival. Mozart’s final opera Die<br />

Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) begins its run at the<br />

festival, directed by Ryan Wigglesworth.<br />

Handel Israel in Egypt. The East Sussex Bach<br />

Choir presents Handel’s mighty oratorio in the<br />

closing event of the BaroqueFest. Israel in Egypt<br />

is popular with audiences and choirs alike thanks<br />

partly to the colourful and exciting choruses<br />

depicting the various plagues visited on Egypt in<br />

biblical times. With the Baroque Collective led by<br />

Alison Bury. Directed by John Hancorn.<br />
