These efficient structures were able to withstand these extreme weather conditions without the use of electricity for comfort through the use of smart passive cooling and heating techniques. One of the major uses of electricity in current buildings is through the heavy uses of HVAC systems. Also in vernacular, natural materials were mostly found locally, reducing embodied energy.
