Stars Qualify for
Major Meets
Tierra Robinson-Jones ’18 and Colin Burke ’15
recently turned out stellar performances at the USA
Track & Field Junior Outdoor Championships held
June 24-26 at Veterans Memorial Stadium-Buchanan
High School in Clovis, California – a meet featuring
the country’s the top young track athletes under the
age of 20.
The youngest of 32 entrants in the 400-meter dash,
Tierra placed 15th in the event, clocking a time of
55.12 seconds. “She beat over half the field, which is
a pretty big deal,” Director of Cross Country/Track &
Field Jamal Cooks said. “She is the No. 7 sophomore
in the country in the 400, and is already a highly
rated college recruit.”
Now competing for UCLA, Colin placed second in
the men’s 10,000-meter run with a personal best time
of 30:46.25 to automatically qualify for the World
Junior Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, July
19-24. At that meet, Colin placed 20th with a time of
30:20.80, a new personal best.
Meanwhile, Alexi Pappas ’08 earned a spot on the
Greek Olympic team in the 10,000-kilometer run,
going 31:46.85 at a race held at Stanford University
in May, besting her previous PR by 18 seconds and
setting a new Greek national record. At the Olympics,
Alexi broke her Greek national record, running
31.36.16, to place 17th in the fastest women’s 10K ever.
