It has been an exciting time in the history of<br />

Risingholme Community Centre with the Mayoral<br />

Opening of Risingholme Homestead on a frosty June<br />

the 5th morning. The official opening was followed by<br />

a Community Open Day on Saturday the 8th June when<br />

members of the community and friends of Risingholme<br />

were welcome to tour the refurbished homestead and<br />

hall as well as participate in various demonstrations<br />

and events that were run throughout the day.<br />

After over 8 years Risingholme Community Centre’s<br />

office is once more operating from the Risingholme<br />

Homestead at 22 Cholmondeley Avenue, Opawa.<br />

Risingholme Community Centre continues to offer<br />

a wide range of exciting learning opportunities across<br />

the city. With the start of term 3, Monday 29th <strong>July</strong>, just<br />

around the corner why not enrol in one of our exciting<br />

classes – www.risingholme.org.nz. Enrolments can be<br />

made anytime throughout the year.<br />

Risingholme’s strong focus on language development<br />

continues with a wide range of language courses at a<br />

variety of levels – ESOL, German, Italian, Arabic,<br />

Russian, Sign Language, Spanish and Te Reo Maori.<br />

Risingholme’s traditional base of art and craft courses<br />

continues to flourish with a full range available at a<br />

number of venues. They include art, fabrics, pattern<br />

making, woodwork skills, health & fitness and wellbeing,<br />

computing, guitar and photography, as well as<br />

many others.<br />

This winter you can explore some of the most pressing issues of<br />

our time with a variety of courses, talks, film events and workshops<br />

at the Canterbury Workers Educational Association (WEA).<br />

Whether its understanding fake news and how to spot it or<br />

finding out about climate change; preparing for the local body<br />

elections or learning ways to reduce your plastic use; there are a<br />

huge number of courses to choose from. Here is a small selection<br />
