Early Childhood<br />

The aim of this national qualification is<br />

<strong>to</strong> raise the skill levels of the Early Years<br />

music workforce across the UK and is<br />

ideal for freelance and/or peripatetic<br />

musicians working, or wishing <strong>to</strong> work, in<br />

Early Years.<br />

Both Liv and Georgia are amongst several<br />

students across the South West who have<br />

benefitted from bursaries and men<strong>to</strong>ring<br />

support from <strong>Take</strong> <strong>Art</strong>.<br />

Where it happens<br />

Four Core Learning Days at CREC (Centre of<br />

Research for Early Childhood, Birmingham)<br />

and ongoing in practice men<strong>to</strong>ring by Jane<br />

Parker, <strong>Take</strong> <strong>Art</strong> (for students based in the<br />

South West).<br />

Time frame<br />

<strong>Sept</strong>ember 2017 - ongoing.<br />

Liv McLennan, former student is now<br />

studying for a PhD: “I highly recommend<br />

this course <strong>to</strong> anyone working in, or<br />

considering working in, Early Childhood<br />

Music Education. It really will enhance<br />

how and why you work the way you do."<br />

What is The CREC?<br />

The Certificate for Music Educa<strong>to</strong>rs (CME):<br />

Early Childhood, run by MERYC-England and<br />

Centre for Research in Early Childhood (CREC).<br />

The course is a nationally recognised<br />

qualification validated by Trinity<br />

College London. It takes 1-2 years <strong>to</strong><br />

complete, offers a flexible, part-time,<br />

distance-learning qualification in early<br />

childhood music and benefits from direct<br />

contributions from Dr Susan Young, Nicola<br />

Burke, Zoe Greenhalgh, Alison Harmer,<br />

Sally-Anne Brown, Barbara Cavanagh<br />

and Jane Parker, all well-known and<br />

highly successful early childhood music<br />

educa<strong>to</strong>rs and researchers.<br />

Georgia Bourne, former student and current<br />

SoundWaves Network music leader: “I am<br />
