from the<br />

Boardroom<br />

Today we extend a warm Paycare Ground welcome to the players,<br />

supporters and officials of <strong>Black</strong> <strong>Country</strong> Rangers. Under the<br />

management of former Walsall, Stourbridge and Worcester City<br />

midfielder Sean Geddes BCR are expected to do very well this season<br />

and we know another tough game is in store today. Win, lose or draw<br />

the players and officials will be made most welcome to join us for our<br />

award winning hospitality.<br />

Well, last Saturday saw us record our first West Midlands (Regional)<br />

League Premier Division win since 7 May 2013 when we beat Wolves<br />

Sporting 1-0 at The City Ground. Following our enforced absence from<br />

the Premier Division it was wonderful to record our first win of the<br />

season against Wem Town and to cap it all a wonder goal from Noah<br />

Diallo was a real pleasure on the eye. A magnificent crowd of 157 were<br />

there to see our first win in the Division.<br />

In the crowd last week were four ground hoppers from all over the<br />

<strong>Country</strong> and they were gushing in their praise for our venue, the playing<br />

surface, hospitality and quality of the match day programme. It is<br />

always nice to receive good feedback. More so from ground hoppers<br />

who travel the <strong>Country</strong> watching non-league football at all levels so to<br />

win their seal of approval is particularly nice.<br />

Last week saw us lose a former club skipper and stalwart of<br />

the club as Ryan McAllister left for pastures new to continue<br />

his playing career at Division One Tipton Town. Ryan was with the club<br />

when we won the Division One title in 2006/07 and went on to have a<br />

successful playing career. He returned “home” when we reformed in<br />

2014/15 and many of us will remember his fantastic back heeled<br />

winning goal in the final minute of our first Division One game at<br />

Hereford Lads Club. Ryan is a great competitor and a Darlo boy through<br />

and through. We all wish Ryan well at Tipton Town and he will always<br />

be most welcome at the club.<br />

The pre-season programme not only develops the players fitness levels, but also the<br />

work we do hopefully allows the players to become more resilient to injuries during<br />

the season. Introducing some of the ideas previously was a more difficult process as<br />

some players had never completed some of the work that we introduced last year.<br />

At a sun-drenched Paycare Ground a crowd of 157 saw Darlaston<br />

record their first win of the season as they moved up to 9th spot in<br />

the West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division.<br />

The opening 15 minutes were even with both defences on top as<br />

chances were restricted and neither keeper brought into any action of<br />

note. It was the impressive Jamie Griffiths for the Shropshire based<br />

visitors who brought keeper Liam Whittaker into action with a fine<br />

save low to his right, with a powerful cross shot that Whittaker did<br />

well to tip round his far post.<br />

saved before Taylor had a glorious opportunity to open the<br />

scoring as he broke through the visitors defence but delayed his shot<br />

which was eventually blocked by Jake Brown. The deadlock was<br />

finally broken on 25 minutes.<br />

The best goal of the afternoon and potentially the best of the season<br />

came in the final minute. Jake Brown brought down Liam Smith 25<br />

yards out. Lucas Hough and Noah Diallo both stood over the free<br />

kick but it was Diallo who stepped up to curl the ball over the wall<br />

“Beyond the<br />

Dressing Room”<br />

So here we are again, another home game straight<br />

on the bounce from last week's emphatic win<br />

against Wem Town, I have to say I feel a little bit<br />

better now we are up and running! I had a bit of a<br />

moment at last week's game because I always remember fondly games<br />

against Wem Town being extremely difficult the season before.<br />

Something just clicked last Saturday, I realised how far we had come as<br />

a club. I looked at the immaculate pitch that is so carefully looked after<br />

with love, a busy touchline which was from top to bottom full of<br />

supporters and the football I did get to see was of such a good quality!<br />

The realisation that what's happened recently to our club, folding not too<br />

many years ago and just how much work, blood sweat and tears by<br />

many people has gone into rebuilding our little club. It was evident how<br />

far we have come, in such a short time.<br />

This time of the year, for us behind the scenes is really busy, we have<br />

several events coming up that we would love to see you at! The first one<br />

is an 80's themed evening with live 80s band on Saturday 21 st<br />

September and we hope it's going to be blooming fabulous. The events<br />

come thick and fast after this with events for most of next year already<br />

booked and penned in the diary! We have some real crackers coming up!<br />

Merchandise is also selling well and it's great to see so many people<br />

kitted out in Darlo colours although working out whose committee<br />

members and who isn't is becoming a bit of a difficult issue now, we all<br />

look the same! Haha!<br />

This weekend Lynne and I, who largely bounce random ideas off each<br />

other to think of innovative ways to raise money for the club have come<br />

up with a couple of new ideas. In saying that I would urge any of you<br />

who think you have an idea/fundraising idea or want your moment to<br />

put on an event, please speak to either of us, as we will support your<br />

venture. Now we are in the Premier Division costs are inevitably higher<br />

and we need to keep that income level coming in so it's crucial to ensure<br />

we reach and get as many people as we can to support us.<br />

It's pretty special to see your ideas come to fruition and be successful,<br />

watching people have a good time and enjoy spending time at the Pavilion<br />

is something that I never get bored of! I love that glance out at the<br />

dancefloor at an evening event, whether it’s a club function or a private<br />

hire seeing people are having a good time. It’s a tremendous reward<br />

knowing that beyond the football pitch, we can bring people together with<br />

their families and loved ones and create so many memories. That's a bit<br />

of a deep personal thing for me, I often tell my kids it's not the years in<br />

your life but the life in your years and it’s so important you spend free<br />

time doing things you love.<br />

I am fairly sure that's why everyone comes to watch us, maybe it’s<br />

because everyone is friendly to anyone who walks through our gates,<br />

strangers regulars anyone who steps on our grounds. Everyone makes<br />

such an effort to keep everyone feeling welcome and like you arrived<br />

home because it is a second home to many of us and knowing and feeling<br />

that is a powerful thing.<br />

Today we face <strong>Black</strong> <strong>Country</strong> Rangers and while I know it’s going to be<br />

really competitive; I purposely don't read too much about teams we<br />

haven't played before, I leave that to Andy Nick and Ant. I like to come<br />

into the game with an open mind, confident in what our team can do and<br />

see what happens on the pitch. I am sure there will be no easy games in<br />

this division and the lads will have to work hard and battle again for one<br />

another but providing we play with the spirit and heart that we can and<br />

do have I am sure we can be a match for anyone in this league.<br />

This weekend also sees Darlaston Ladies play their last pre-season friendly<br />

at nearby Tipton Sports Academy before opening their League campaign<br />

on 8 th September when we host Walsall Ladies Development which will<br />

hopefully bring a new set of supporters and a different dimension to our<br />

club and that can only be positive so I wish them the best as they kick off<br />

the campaign so come and support the Bella's if your free...<br />

We are quickly heading towards the start of the youth teams league<br />

season, and this is when the Pavilion gets really busy. For the first few<br />

weeks we run around like blue bottomed flies trying to remember the<br />

order and structure that worked last season! Overall, we are busy, mega<br />

mega busy but never too busy to take 5 minutes out and take stock of<br />

just what we have managed to achieve in a few short years at the club<br />

and as always come 3pm I'm beyond proud of our achievements!<br />

So, shout, sing, cheer and get behind the boys today and make the<br />

difference.<br />

A BRIEF<br />

HISTORY<br />

Paul Garner started todayʼs <strong>Black</strong> <strong>Country</strong><br />

Rangers team in 1998 as an extension of <strong>Black</strong><br />

<strong>Country</strong> Rangers Youth, allowing a pathway<br />

from youth football into adult football.<br />

<strong>Black</strong> <strong>Country</strong> Rangers Youth played their football in the popular<br />

Stourbridge and District Youth League. The team over the years were<br />

very successful winning league titles and cups at various age groups.<br />

<strong>Black</strong> <strong>Country</strong> Rangers joined the under 18s floodlit league in 2005<br />

playing at at the original home of Willenhall Town at Noose Lane.<br />

The club played at Willenhall for two seasons in the Floodlit League<br />

before applying to join the West Midlands (Regional) League at the<br />

beginning of the 2007/8 season. The application was successful, and<br />

they were placed is Division Two, still playing their games from Willenhall<br />

Town.<br />

<strong>Black</strong> <strong>Country</strong> won the Division Two League Cup at the end of 2008/09<br />

season after finishing fifth in the League. After winning the cup at the<br />

home of Tividale, this proved a good omen as they moved from Willenhall<br />

Townʼs Noose Lane ground to the Beeches at the beginning of the<br />

2009/10 season. winning the final The Beeches home of Tividale.<br />

The 2009/10 season saw the club have their most successful season to<br />

date, doing the League and Cup double earning promotion into Division<br />

One. The stay in Division One was very brief a single season (2010/11) in<br />

which they won the Division by nine points over Wellington Amateurs<br />

losing just three games in the whole season.<br />

The club had their most successful season ever in 2011/12 after being<br />

promoted into the West Midlands (Regional) Premier Division finishing<br />

runners up to champions Gornal Athletic losing out by 3 points over a 42-<br />

game season, in which <strong>Black</strong> <strong>Country</strong> scored 158 goals more than three<br />

and a half goals a game. At the end of the same season <strong>Black</strong> <strong>Country</strong><br />

Rangers won the sought after J.W. Hunt Cup beating the previous<br />

seasonʼs winners AFC Wulfrunians 4-3.<br />

Success continued in the following season, not doing so well in the<br />

League finishing fifth, but the team retained the J.W. Hunt Cup, this time<br />

beating Wolverhampton Casuals 4-3.<br />

In recent years the club has had to move home many times, playing at<br />

Cradley Town for a while, but at the beginning of the 2016/17 season,<br />

they moved to The Grove, home of Halesowen Town, where they played<br />

for two seasons, before being forced to move to Gornal Athletic at short<br />

notice for the beginning of last season.<br />

This season once again the club has moved its base, this time to York<br />

Road, Rowley Regis, the new home of Division One side Bustleholme<br />

The club has remained in the Premier Division for eight seasons, in which<br />

time the club has finished second, fourth, fifth (twice) and their worst<br />

finish was in 2015/16 finishing 15th out of 22 teams<br />

This summer apart from moving to a new home, a new manager was<br />

appointed former Walsall, Stourbridge and Worcester City midfielder<br />

Sean Geddes. Geddes has been building a new squad for the forthcoming<br />

season.<br />

Phoenix Calibration is the UK’s most diverse materials testing<br />

technology specialist, offering in-house testing, bespoke<br />

design, manufacture and support of machines and control<br />

systems.<br />

Merlin’s services are used for testing and characterising earlystage<br />

development formulations, trouble-shooting existing<br />

formulations for production processes and bespoke testing to<br />

generate data to track quality measures/outputs by design/<br />

computer modelling projects.<br />

Around the League<br />

The Premier Division is taking shape with Shifnal Town and Bewdley<br />

Town leading the way with maximum points from their opening 4<br />

games.<br />

Shifnal travelled to The Aspray Arena and returned to Shropshire with a<br />

2 goal win against Dudley Town. Brad Sharma and Rees Wedderburn<br />

were both on target. The Shiffers played the final 30 minutes with ten<br />

men after Harry Cunningham saw red. Bewdley are in second spot on<br />

goal difference following a comfortable 4-0 home win against<br />

Wednesfield. Luke Morris gave them the lead on the stroke of half<br />

time followed by second half goals from Dylan Hart, Aaron Stubbins<br />

and Ben Priest.<br />

Worcester Raiders bounced back from last week’s set back at<br />

Shawbury with a 3-2 win against struggling Bilston Town at Queen<br />

Street. Kevin Nickle on 51 minutes and from the penalty spot and<br />

Shaquille Lee were on target for the Steelmen, but Roland Krol<br />

continued his hot goal scoring streak with a brace, Aaron Drake was<br />

also on target for the visitors.<br />

Today’s visitors <strong>Black</strong> <strong>Country</strong> Rangers slipped to fourth following an<br />

unexpected 2-1 home loss against Bridgnorth. Anwar Ologbun and<br />

Ben Robinson were on target for the visitors whilst Kayelden Brown<br />

netted for Rangers who finished the game with 10 men after Joe<br />

Burroughs saw red. Littleton edged home 2-1 against Shawbury with a<br />

last minute winner from former Stourbridge and Lye Town midfielder<br />

Ben Billingham. Jake Young gave the visitors the lead but a Billingham<br />

penalty and his late winner inflicted a first defeat of the season on<br />

Shawbury.<br />

Wolves Casuals have yet to concede a goal. A single second half goal<br />

from Kieran Cook was enough to settle the points against Pershore.<br />

Former Darlaston striker James Quarry netted the only goal of the<br />

game at Hazel Lane as Wolves Sporting beat Cradley Town. Lewis<br />

Haughton and Zidan Sutherland goals gave Smethwick Rangers the<br />

points at Dudley Sports.<br />

In Division One it is great to see Willenhall Town doing so well. After<br />

years of adversity I am delighted for Chairman Simon Hall and<br />

his wife Sharon that the Lockmen sit proudly top of Division 25


One with a 100% record after 3 games. They entertained<br />

Bustleholme who also boasted a 100% record and ran out<br />

resounding 5-0 winners. Goals from Jack Dale, Fabian Facey and<br />

Joss Allen gave them a 3-goal interval lead, two late goals by ace<br />

marksmen Stephen Holmes completed the rout.<br />

Old Wulfs leap frogged Bustleholme into second spot with a 2-1<br />

away win at Allscott. James Weaver opened the scoring on 14<br />

minutes. Tom Ray doubled their lead in the second half before<br />

Rune Corinaldi pulled one back to set up a rousing finish. Two first<br />

half goals in 3 minutes settled the points for Wellington Amateurs<br />

at home to Tipton Town. Tahli Harrigan and Shane Thomas with<br />

the goals.<br />

In the Gornal derby, Colts and Athletic shared the points in a 2-2<br />

draw at the Dell Stadium. Alistair McCue and Matt Smith were on<br />

target for Colts with Drenz Bala and Kyle Peters finding the net for<br />

Athletic. Wrens Nest fell to the bottom of the table following a 6-1<br />

hammering at home to Team Dudley who picked up their first<br />

points of the season. A Beckham Brazier hat-trick, a brace from<br />

Ashley Parsons Smith and Ahmed Diamonde were on target for the<br />

visitors with Arnold Chaponda netting a consolation goal for the<br />

Wrenna.<br />

In the Long Lane derby Wyrley overcame Sikh Hunters in a 2-1<br />

In Division Two Ludlow Town displaced Newport Town from top<br />

spot after beating their Shropshire rivals 4-1 at Shukers Field.<br />

Goals from James Byatt Dan Griffiths and a brace from Jack Davies<br />

settled the Shropshire derby with Jamie Harrison netting a<br />

consolation. Under the management of former Darlaston defender<br />

Ryan McDonagh Coven Athletic moved into second spot winning a<br />

7 goal thriller by the odd goal against Church Stretton. Goals from<br />

Ashley Dicken, Kyle Wainwright and two from Paul Blagrove set up<br />

the win with Jack Davies, Owen Holdsworth and Matthew Jones all<br />

replying for the visitors. In the only other game in the Division, two<br />

new teams were in action at Walsall Wood as Walsall Town Swifts<br />

thumped Worcester Raiders Reserves 7-1. A Dante Taylor hat trick<br />

together with two from Shane Holmes and goals from Ryan<br />

Bradshaw and substitute Kienan Palmer completed the rout.<br />

Ground Regulations<br />

1. Permission to enter or to remain within the Ground is at the absolute<br />

discretion of the Club or any authorised officer.<br />

2. In the event of the postponement or abandonment of the Match,<br />

refunds (if any) will be made at the discretion of the Club. The<br />

Club will have no further liability whatsoever.<br />

3. All persons seeking entrance to the Ground acknowledge the Club’s<br />

right to search any person and to refuse entry to or eject from<br />

the Ground any person refusing to submit to such a search.<br />

4. The following articles must not be brought into the Ground knives,<br />

fireworks, smoke canisters, air-horns, flares, musical instruments,<br />

weapons, dangerous or hazardous items, laser devices, bottles, glass<br />

vessels, cans, poles and any article that might be used as a weapon,<br />

compromise public safety or annoy neighbours. Any person in breach<br />

of these requirements will be refused entry or will be ejected from<br />

the Ground.<br />

5. The use of threatening behaviour, foul, aggressive, racist or abusive<br />

language is forbidden and will result in immediate ejection from the<br />

Ground at the discretion of the Club. The police will be called if<br />

appropriate.<br />

6. Racial abuse, chanting or harassment is strictly forbidden and will<br />

result in arrest and/or ejection from the Ground at the discretion of<br />

the Club. A ban for one or more matches will be imposed.<br />

7. The following acts are arrestable offences under the Football<br />

(Offences) Act 1991, as amended and conviction of such acts<br />

may result in a banning order being imposed on the guilty party.<br />

7.1 The throwing of any object within the Ground without lawful<br />

authority or excuse.<br />

7.2 The chanting of anything of an indecent or racial nature.<br />

7.3 The entry onto the playing area or any adjacent area to<br />

which spectators are not generally admitted without lawful<br />

authority or excuse.<br />

8. Nobody may stand in any seating or marked area whilst play is in<br />

progress. Persistent standing in seated areas whilst play is in<br />

progress is forbidden and will result in ejection from the Ground.<br />

9. The obstruction of gangways, access ways, exits and entrances,<br />

stairways and like places is strictly forbidden. Nobody<br />

entering the Ground shall be permitted to climb any structures within<br />

the Ground.<br />

10. Smoking in No-Smoking areas is strictly forbidden.<br />

11. Under the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc) Act 1985 as<br />

amended, the following are offences for which a person can be<br />

arrested by a Police Officer and conviction will result in a<br />

Banning Order being made:<br />

11.1 Attempting to enter the Ground or being inside the Ground<br />

whilst drunk or in possession of alcohol.<br />

11.2 The consumption of alcohol is entirely at the discretion of<br />

the club, glass will not be allowed pitch side.<br />

12. Any individual who has entered any part of the Ground designated<br />

for the use of any group of supporters to which they do not belong<br />

may be ejected from the Ground either for the purposes of their own<br />

safety or for any other reason.<br />

13. No goods of any nature may be offered for sale without the prior<br />

written permission of the Club.<br />

14. Photographs and videos<br />

14.1 Photographs and videos cannot be taken or recorded at any<br />

Youth Team games without specific consent being obtained<br />

prior to the fixture or permission is granted from the relevant<br />

Darlaston Town (1874) Youth Team manager prior to kick off<br />

14.2 Photographs and videos are allowed to be taken or recorded at<br />

all First Team matches. To enhance its standing with the<br />

football and local community, to promote the interests of the<br />

club and sponsors, and to keep supporters and followers fully<br />

informed the club has a legitimate interest in publishing First<br />

Team photos and videos including in their match day<br />

programmes on their website and on their social media sites.<br />

The photographs and videos will be destroyed in line with<br />

GDPR Regulations<br />

15. At all times whilst in the Ground, persons must comply with any<br />

and all instructions of any committee member or authorised person.<br />

Failure to comply with any instruction will lead to ejection from the<br />

Ground.<br />

16. The Club reserves the right to eject from the Ground any person<br />

failing to comply with any of the Ground Regulations or whose<br />

presence within the Ground is, or could reasonably be, construed as<br />

constituting a source of danger, nuisance or annoyance to any<br />

other person or neighbour. This will lead to further action by the<br />

club including, but not limited to the issue of a banning order.<br />

17. Entry to the Ground shall constitute acceptance of the<br />

above Ground Regulations. 31
