BRISE DE MER
MUSIC / MUSIQUE
Dominica’s
heart beats
to the sound of Jazz
Le cœur de la Dominique
bat au rythme du jazz
The next edition of the Jazz’n Creole festival
will take place in Dominica from May
3 to 5, 2019. Over the years, it has
grown into a staple event for Afro-
Caribbean jazz aficionados. Thus,
with regards to its 10 th edition, the
goal is to continue broadening the
festival’s reach – far beyond music.
incontournable. Pour cette 10 ème
édition, l’objectif des organisateurs
est de donner encore plus
d’envergure à cette manifestation,
bien au-delà de la musique.
If there is one event that Jazz aficionados can absolutely not miss, it is the Dominica
Jazz’n Creole festival, no doubt. Because its stage has been hosting some of the
greatest talents in the entire Caribbean, year after year; from Jamaica to Haiti, Saint
Lucia to Guadeloupe, not to mention Martinique… Thus, past line ups have included
Monty Alexander, Beethova Obas, Michele Henderson, Luther and more recently,
Trinidadian band Xavier Strings.
Held at the National Park of Cabrits, in the northern part of the island, the festival
entices not only jazz lovers, but also visitors seeking to enjoy all that the island has to
offer: music, fashion, food as well as history tours and green excursions.
Usually scheduled over the Pentecost weekend, the Jazz’n Creole festival has embraced
new dates and will be unfolding over three days, this year. On local radio DBS, Senator
Robert Tonge noted that the point of that operation was to broaden the event’s reach
and scope. In view of using the festival as a platform for a full weekend of entertainment
aiming not only to please local residents but also tourists from neighbouring islands.
Or from even further away! “We want to
attract more people, who might want to
come spend the weekend and seize the
opportunity to visit other sites” he said.
And in all likeliness, after getting a first
taste of the island’s charms, visitors are
bound to come back for more…
Dominica Jazz’n Creole festival.
