Storage King
recognised for
fundraising
A ROLLESTON business
has been recognised for its
contribution to the community.
Storage King won the
community engagement award
at the Self Storage Industries of
Australasia awards last week.
The business has been actively
involved in fundraising for
organisations.
It also sponsors Rolleston
rugby, the Rolleston Warriors,
Rolleston softball, Rolleston
netball, the Waikirikiri Hockey
Club, and Selwyn United’s first
kicks programme.
Manager Chris O’Brien said it
couldn’t have done it without the
Selwyn community’s help.
“Selwyn has a highly-engaged
community that loves to be
part of initiatives, not-for-profit
organisations and supporting
local. We identified this quickly
and were able to work alongside
community individuals and
groups to help achieve the kind of
engagement normally seen only
after years of work,” he said.
“We want to say thanks for
their amazing contribution
towards receiving such an award
and we very much look forward
to serving the communities of
Selwyn for many more years to
come.”
Help schools play together
LEMONWOOD Grove and
Waitaha schools need the
community’s help to build a
shared playground so the pupils
to play together.
The two schools share a site at
Rolleston.
Lemonwood Grove opened
in 2017 and Waitaha School,
a special education facility,
opened a year after with 50-60
students aged from five to
21-years-old.
Waitaha School principal
Maureen Allan said the
playground will allow the pupils
to build relationships with each
other.
“We decided to collaborate on
this project because we want a
shared space for the learners to
play alongside one another,” she
said.
The playground is expected to
cost about $70,000 with the bulk
of the money going towards
special requirements like safety
matting and fencing.
Lemonwood Grove principal
Sean Bailey said he is excited
about the project and the
opportunities it will provide.
In a bid to raise the money, the
schools have been fundraising,
and the Lemonwood Grove
LINK committee (PTA) will run
a quiz night with the Waitaha
School Board.

project and bringing the two
school communities together.
The quiz night will be held on

September 21 and will include
raffles and auctions.
“The aim of the night is to
create an opportunity to bring
our local community together
while raising money for our
playground,” Ms King said.
