about arts and
culture in the Kootenays
on Thursday,

pm at the Nelson and
District Chamber of
Commerce, 91 Baker Street (upstairs).
The event is called On the Table: Virtue Tea, local snacks
& community arts & culture in the Koots. Introduce a topic
of interest focused on arts and culture, or explore one of
these suggestions: making connections through arts and
culture; how to support one another as artists/arts workers;
barriers to participation/making a living; access and
representation; sustainability. Everyone welcome!
On the Table is free of charge and is hosted by the
West Kootenay Regional Arts Council. Space is limited

The idea behind the event was developed in 2017 by
the Vancouver Foundation (www.onthetablebc.com/).
Research revealed that people are feeling disconnected
from community life. Solving social isolation is complicated,
but connecting with people can be easy. In that
light, they are calling on everyone across BC to help create
a sense of welcome and belonging in our communities.
With On the Table, they have created a platform for others
to do the same. It’s a simple idea, but a deeply profound

Herbert Bruce Thompson passed away on
September 5, 2019 at the age of 87. He was born in
Yahk, BC in 1932. He worked for BC Forestry for many
Herb celebrated 65 years of marriage with his loving wife
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His love of family
will never be forgotten.
Herb’s knowledge of and passion for horses has touched
many people. He enjoyed backcountry riding, giving sleigh
rides, harness making and teaching anyone who wanted
to learn anything about horses. He was involved in many
community ventures.

Herb will stay forever in our hearts and memories.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
