SCOTTISH ANCESTRY looms large in the background of many New Zealanders. The Hororata Highland Games celebrates both Scottish and Kiwi culture to create a captivating festival. The ninth annual Hororata Highland Games will be held Saturday, November 9. There is no other festival quite like it in New Zealand. “The games has been developed by a group of passionate volunteers who have put their heart and soul into making it the amazing event it is today,” said event manager Cindy Driscoll. The Hororata Highland Games sees all the traditional Scottish competitions take place over one massive day at the Hororata Domain. The festival hosts New Zealand’s biggest one-day Highland Dancing competition, top level pipe bands, solo pipers and drummers, tug of war teams and of course the strong men and women competing in the heavy events.
