Germiston Golf Club
Germiston, 8 th September 2019- Captains Report
On the weekend of 24 th /25 th August 21 Easterns Nomads went off to play the Glenbrynth
Challenge at Highland Gate. This is a great venue for a tour and we compete in 3
competitions over 2 days versus Swaziland, Gauteng, Northerns and Lowveld. Rob Gordon
did a great job coordinating with the other clubs with Lowveld as hosts.
Results:
LES Trophy (Swazi, Easterns, Lowveld): Winner Easterns
Quadrangular (Gauteng, Lowveld, Northerns, Easterns): Winner Easterns
Glenbrynth Challenge (all 5 clubs): Winner Gauteng by 0.05 point over Easterns
Well done team and to the rest of you please try and make this trip next year it is truly a
great tournament.
The 13 th and 14 th September heralded the 19 th version of the Botswana Nationals with
Easterns having 18 players for South Africa. Hot, dry weather greeted us but the cowboy
bar was an excellent refuge from the heat. Some of us scored well and others not too
good, Mark Hughes charged out with a 40 pointer on Friday but faded badly in the Saturday
sun. Well done to Botswana on a great weekend of good laughs and fun. Many
tales to tell but as we say “what goes on tour stays on tour”. Les Floyd made a cameo
appearance for the first swing of a club in 4 years on Friday and shot a very credible 25
points. This was a first for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Not often you have to ask
warthogs to please get out of the way in order to play your shot.
