Emmanuel presents N598bn budget
to A-Ibom Assembly
By Chioma
Onuegbu
UYO —GOVERNOR
Udom Emmanuel of
Akwa Ibom State has
proposed a total budget
estimate of N597.8 billion for
the 2020 fiscal year to the state
House of Assembly.
This is made up of
N111.225 billion for
Recurrent Expenditure,
N369.642 billion for Capital
Expenditure and N116.933
billion as Consolidated
Revenue Fund charges.
The total projected
recurrent revenue for 2020
budget is estimated at
N381.556 billion as against
the approved provision of
N374.758 billion in 2019.
Presenting the budget to
the state House of Assembly,
yesterday, Emmanuel said
the 2020 budget christened,
“Budget of Industrialisation
for Poverty Alleviation Phase
II,’ was designed as a key
milestone in actualising his
administration’s completion
agenda.
He said: “Mr. Speaker
and members, considering
the fact that my completion
agenda is predicated
primarily on the rapid
industrialisation of this state,
we have christened the 2020
budget “The budget of
Industrialisation for Poverty
Alleviation Phase II.
“It was so named because
the state has started
witnessing major
breakthroughs in
industrialisation through
construction and
commissioning of some
industries that are currently
in full operations or ongoing.
“The 2020 budget aims to
support areas that will
deliver inclusive growth and
massive employment
opportunities such as the
construction of the Ibom
Deep Seaport, completion of
Airport project, purchase of
more airplanes and
competition of the 21-storey
intelligent building among
others.
“The 2020 budget is
predicated on the eight point
agenda that forms the policy
thrust of my completion
agenda of industrialisation,
aviation development,
security, infrastructure, small
and medium scale
enterprises, human capacity
development, agriculture,
and rural and riverine area
development.”
Emmanuel expressed the
belief that the full
implementation of the
provisions of the budget will
ensure for the state a society
that is self-reliant and less
dependent on statutory
allocation from the centre.
World Teachers Day:
Okowa rewards 12
teachers with cash, cars
AS the world celebrated
the World Teachers’ Day,
12 teachers in Delta State
have received cars and cash
rewards for outstanding
performance in their duties.
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa
announced the rewards at a
dinner and awards night
organised by Ministry of
Basic and Secondary
Education in conjunction
with Nigeria Union of
Teachers, NUT, for teachers
in the state, in Asaba.
Recipients of the awards
were principals, head
teachers and classroom
teachers at primary and
secondary school levels, who
emerged from a selection
process.
Okowa said: “I want to
congratulate the awardees
and to let them know that the
reward of teachers is not only
in heaven. This type of
recognition will touch the
hearts of our teachers and
make them work harder in the
development of our children.
“The teachers, just like
parents, play an important role
in the development and
upbringing of the child. We
need to continue to give care
to our children and guide
them aright because it is at this
foundational level that we can
mould their character.
“We need to get the moral
development of the children
aright at this level, so that it
will be well with our nation.”
he said.
The governor urged the
awardees to redouble their
commitment to the upbringing
of the pupils, reminding them
that “teaching is a passion that
genuinely flows from the
heart.”
He commended the state
Ministry of Basic and
Secondary Education for
organising the event and
NUT for its tremendous
support and partnership in
improving the education sector
in the state.
Earlier, Mr Patrick Ukah,
Commissioner for Basic and
Secondary Education, said the
in 470 public secondary
schools and 1,126 primary
schools in the state.
THE Central Bank of
Nigeria, CBN,
to patronise the Cross River
State garment factory for
their uniforms.
the factory, praised
Governor Ben Ayade for
creating employment for the
through the garment factory.
The CBN governor said
there was no justifiable
reason for the Nigerian
Armed Forces and
paramilitary organisations
in the country to continue
to import uniforms.
His words: “I must say that
with what I have seen today,
I’m very impressed
all the service chiefs, head
