Enugu butchers resolve
3-year-rift, hold election
By Dennis Agbo
E NUGU—ENUGU
Urban Butchers
Association, Ogbete Main
Market Branch, has
overcome three years
imbroglio that paralysed
the group and yesterday,
conducted election for its
executive members.
Crisis had hit the union,
following the expiration of
tenure of its former
executive members. This
had stopped it from
electing a new set of
leaders.
However, an Enugu
magistrate court, presided
over by F. U. Eze, on
August 19, ordered
conduct of an election,
using a previous electoral
committee headed by Mr.
Chigbo Nnamani.
After the conduct of the
election in Enugu
yesterday, Mr. Elijah Ede
emerged chairman of the
association, while Mr.
Osita Ike became
Secretary.
Ede pledged to reunite
the group, noting that his
election was a clarion call
to serve the association.
has called on the Federal
Government to make
vehicles and cars
manufactured by Innoson
Vehicle Manufacturing,
IVM, the official brand that
will be used by all
government offices,
agencies, corporate
bodies, industries and
parastatals in the country.
The group, in a
statement, said: “Having
succeeded in
manufacturing various
cars that can compete
favourably at the
international market, we
believe it is time to support
and encourage our own
made in Nigeria cars to
reduce excessive
importation of cars and
vehicles from other
countries that has caused
the country unfavourable
balance of payment.”
The statement signed by
Chief Goodluck Egwu
Ibem, the President-
General, the group opined
that excessive importation
of goods and services into
the country destroys the
economy, as local firms will
be out of business and the
resultant effect will be
unemployment of
Nigerian citizens and
He said it was because
his members saw the
potential in him that
made them elect him to
reunite the association in
truth and in faithfulness.
He gave appreciation
to the judiciary, which
resolved the litigation
that lasted for three
years, saying justice
prevailed at last.
His words: “I will
rebuild that wall that
was broken for three
years and restore the
glory with which the
people knew the Ogbete
“I believe that this
election will reunite all
the butchers in Ogbete
Market, because when
the righteous is on the
throne, people will
rejoice. This is the word
of God and in everything
I will do, I will consult
God first.”
Chairman of the
electoral committee, Mr.
Chigbo Nnamani, said
the election was a job
well done and a
welcome development
given the years of
litigation over the matter.
FG urged to make Innoson
vehicles official brand
economic depression.
It stated: “But when we
encourage local
manufacturers and
entrepreneurs, we have
a robust economy that
will create more
employment opportunities
for Nigerian
citizens.
“Chairman/CEO of
IVM, Chief Innocent
Chukwuma, has
provided employment
for our teeming youths,
women, men and has
enhanced Nigeria’s
earnings through his
establishment.”
