<strong>Beaconsfield</strong> Town<br />

football club - Rams<br />

Well known for its cricket and rugby<br />

sides, <strong>Beaconsfield</strong> also boasts a<br />

successful football club - The Rams -<br />

based at Holloways Park, directly<br />

opposite the service station.<br />

<strong>Beaconsfield</strong> Town FC plays in the BetVictor<br />

Southern League Premier Division South, Step<br />

3 in the Non-League Pyramid.<br />

This season The Rams launched an Under-18<br />

team and an Academy side, both with the aim<br />

of providing future players for the first team.<br />

Plans are also in place to develop a ladies side,<br />

one for veterans, and one for the increasingly<br />

popular pastime of ‘walking football’.<br />

Both the first team and academy sides are<br />

managed by Gary Meakin, a qualified UEFA<br />

‘A’ Licence coach. Captain of The Rams is Wes<br />

Daly, a former professional at Queens Park<br />

Alan Hansen famously challenged Sir<br />

Alex Ferguson with the “you can’t win<br />

anything with kids” comment that went<br />

down in football folklore.<br />

Well <strong>Beaconsfield</strong> RFC are also putting this<br />

statement to the test with a reliance on youth<br />

players that surpasses any of the club’s sixty<br />

odd years in existence.<br />

This summer we had a number of key players<br />

retiring as well as others moving into London.<br />

Additionally we have been cursed with injuries<br />

and illnesses and cruelly just 2 minutes into our<br />

second match we lost our club captain for the<br />

season with a nasty broken ankle.<br />

However yet again testament to the strength<br />

in depth at the club, we have relied heavily on<br />

youth players for crucial matches, putting us at<br />

Rangers, who also played for AFC<br />

Wimbledon as they rose through the non-<br />

League ranks. Fans of Wycombe Wanderers<br />

will remember Dean Morgan, who currently<br />

leads the attack for <strong>Beaconsfield</strong>.<br />

As well as an award-winning playing surface<br />

the Club also boasts a fantastic 120-capacity<br />

newly-refurbished venue, Holloways Park.<br />

With a fully-licensed bar with a new dance floor,<br />

outdoor terrace and enclosed garden it is<br />

perfect for all types of event. The Holloways<br />

average age of our pack the last two matches<br />

was just 22, which is almost unheard of.<br />

Director of Rugby, Noel O’Mahony, commented<br />

“this has created a great opportunity to<br />

showcase the depth of talent within the<br />

club, with youth players playing throughout<br />

the 3 regular sides. Our coaching team of<br />

Tom, Frazer, Aled and Dan Norton are really<br />

surpassing themselves and getting the most out<br />

of our squad. The players are really responding<br />

positively and there is a great buzz around the<br />

place. We have won three of our six matches, all<br />

with four try bonuses. The future bodes well.”<br />
