Modderfontein, 13 th October 2019- Captains Report
Our first game at Modderfontein in the summer for a while was met with very hot
weather and then a thundershower late in the day. The rain didn’t last long enough to
cause any problems. Some decent showers will be gratefully received by all clubs in this
searing heat.
Terry and Cheryl, our early birds, were there bright and early to get the day off to a
start. A big thank you to them once again. Gavin Adams had appointed Steve Davis and
Rooster Naude to assist in the starting with the field running on time, well done and
thank you guys.
I must thank Dave Diesel and Peter Bailey for pitching in as sponsors for the day as our
original sponsor was unable to oblige. It always amazes me how lucky we are to have
members that react to the situation so quickly. My fourball consisted of these two gents
and club chairman, Tony Fernandes, an old friend of Nomads that has participated in
many Golforama events. Great conversation and discussion on new handicap rules but
not very good golf.
Congratulations to former captain Vic Langkilde on receiving his 10 year tie.
We are happy to announce two new members that have returned to the Nomads community.
Johnny Swanepoel joins from the Free State and Mike Drummond returns after
a short absence from Lowveld.
On Friday 11 th October the Andrew Mentis fundraiser night golf was held at Serengeti
Par 3 course. A good field had entered and the evening was well organised by our VC
Stephen Malherbe and Steve Bouwer. Well done guys and thanks to the ladies that
helped and to all those that sponsored prizes. A few lessons were learnt and I’m sure
these will be applied next year. Glenbrynth were also kind enough to give us a whisky
tasting experience and our gratitude goes out to Derek Cuthbert and his team.
