their gumboots and<br />
overalls for atouch of<br />
glamour this week.<br />
The farming couple<br />
opened their home to<br />
family, friends and fellow<br />
rural neighbours to host<br />
agarden party for the<br />
158th running of the<br />
Melbourne Cup, on<br />
Tuesday afternoon.<br />
It was attended by<br />
more than 50 people<br />
including Greenstreet<br />
farming family members<br />
from the Butterick,<br />
Tavendale, Hanna and<br />
Webb families.<br />
The event included a<br />
bestdressed<br />
competition, won by<br />
Jeanette Van der Nagel;<br />
cup day sweepstakes,<br />
drinks, nibbles and pot<br />
luck tea.<br />
The Stewarts, who are<br />
‘‘enthusiastic race goers’’<br />
said it was an easy way to<br />
get people together and<br />
was areminder of days of<br />
old, when they regularly<br />
held such events along<br />
the rural road; the last<br />
one in 2012.<br />

bring out the dresses and<br />

models drivingincostin<br />
theregion of $400,000.<br />
McIlroy’sisthe only<br />
authorised Bentley<br />
service centre in the<br />
South Island and there is<br />
anotherinthe North<br />
Island.<br />
He alsodeals in<br />
Bentleys.<br />

On the trail of<br />
family roots<br />
Anyone with an interest in<br />
tracing family roots is<br />
invited toattend aseminar<br />
later this month hosted by<br />
<strong>Ashburton</strong> Family History<br />
Group.<br />
The fullday seminar will<br />
be led by visiting genealogist<br />
Michelle Patient and<br />
will be held in the Education<br />
Room at the <strong>Ashburton</strong><br />
Art Gallery &Heritage<br />
Centre.<br />
The <strong>November</strong> 23 session<br />
runs from 10.30am<br />
until 4pm and generalentry<br />
is $20.<br />
Michelle Patient will<br />
look at how to review your<br />
family tree research and to<br />
get past any roadblocks,<br />
explain the ins and outs of<br />
family history websites such<br />
as Ancestry, FindMyPast,<br />
My Heritage and Family<br />
Search, and will suggest the<br />
next steps after you have<br />
received your DNA results.<br />
A question and answer<br />
session will follow abreak<br />
for lunch.<br />
Michelle has a love of<br />
data, facts and researchand<br />
has been using computers<br />
and the internet since the<br />
1980s.<br />
She became ‘‘addicted’’<br />
to genealogy in 1999, and<br />
now enjoys helping others<br />
make the most out of using<br />
technology to help further<br />
their own research.<br />
She has volunteered in<br />
various roles within the<br />
genealogy community both<br />
in Australia and New Zealand<br />
and has been president<br />
of the New ZealandSociety<br />
of<br />
Genealogists<br />
(20122014), New Zealand<br />
regional representative for<br />
the Guild of OneName<br />
Studies (2015 present) and<br />
is an education committee<br />
member of Society ofAustralian<br />
Genealogists.<br />
